To my sister

To my sister

I came up to the forest of pines,

My path was long, the sun beat down.

Pulling the doorway curtains aside,

He, gray-haired and humble, came out.

The seer gazed at me and zealously,

He uttered: “Bride of Christ!

For the prosperous, feel no jealousy,

For your place is up in the skies.

Forget your native home and grow

Like a heavenly lily, content.

Sick, you’ll sleep on a bed of straw

And you’ll meet a blissful end.”

The holy one surely heard from his cell,

How I sang, going back to my path,

Of the unspeakable bliss I felt,

As I rejoiced in the news and laughed.
