How to download photos from websites

This page describes how to use the right-click method when a download link is not available.

Set up a default downloads folder in your browser

A web browser is a software application (program) used for accessing web pages on the Internet. The most common browsers are Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer, Edge.

In Firefox:

  1. Type this in the search bar: about:preferences

  2. Look for the "Downloads" section

  3. If "Save files to" is selected (it has a blue circle in front), look at the path listed in the box. That path is your default downloads folder. Change the path by clicking Browse.

  4. OR: Select the option to "Always ask me where to save files" - if you choose this, a window will open every time you want to download a file. This option is good if you want to rename the download right away.

  5. Close the preferences tab

In Chrome:

  1. Type this in the search bar: chrome://settings

  2. Scroll down and click "Show advanced settings"

  3. Scroll down to "Downloads"

  4. Look at what is the "Download location" box. That path is your default downloads folder. Click "Change..." it if you want to change the default location.

  5. Click "Ask where to save each file before downloading" (if you want the ability to change the file name at the time you download files).

  6. Close the settings tab

To download an image from a website using right-click

    1. Right-click a photo

    2. Click "Save Image As..."

    3. In the window that opens, look at the path at the top. The path should be the default downloads location that you set up in your browser. You have the option to browse to another location.

    4. Change the file name (or leave it as is)

    5. Click the "Save" button

    6. The picture will now be in your default downloads folder on your computer

Set up Picasa3 to scan your default downloads folder

Make sure your default downloads folder is set up to be "scanned always" by Picasa3. When the downloads folder is being scanned by Picasa, all photos added to that folder will be "seen" by Picasa, and can then be edited.
