Finally, we are emerging from this pandemic and things are gradually returning to where they were.
If you remember, in 2020, we had our Friday night event on Saint Patrick's Day Parade weekend knowing that we were already advised that the parade would be cancelled. We thought long and hard about cancelling the Friday event, but decided that we must have it for those who had made their plans already. We knew that some, out of an abundance of caution, would not come. We felt that those who wanted to come should have a say in things, and we are glad we did. We had over 150 people participate that night; little did we know that it would be the last scheduled event to be held at the FOP for almost a year and a half.
Then we started to plan our 2020 Fall Fling, even though numerous events were canceled at the shore, including Irish Weekend. We had masks, hand sanitizer, and canned beer. We had servers in gloves and masks. And guess what; we pulled it off! It was a fantastic weekend for all, and we did not have any super spreader links tied to us. It was a great Emerald Society weekend, and all were happy we went ahead with the event.
In the ensuing months there would be no Mummers Parade on New Year's Day in 2021, and then the Saint Patrick's Day Parade was cancelled for a second straight year and we could not hold any of our own events.
Now we are in the final stages of planning the Fall Fling for this year. So, if you have not gotten your deposit in yet, you still have time. We are running out of rooms as we speak. Those that attended last year will have first dibs on their room once again.
Contact any board member or AL Kuchler at the FOP daily to reserve your room. Visit our Events section here at the website for more details.
Have a great summer, and end it with a fantastic weekend at the Jersey shore with the Philadelphia Emerald Society!
