L'Érudition écarte d'une main les nuages qui couvrent les débris de l'Antiquité, & de l'autre elle répand la lumière sur un amas de ruines. Nous devons la composition à Madame la Comtesse de Sabran qui réunit aux graces de la figure & de l'esprit tous les goûts & tous les talens.

Francoise Eléonore Dejean de Manville 

(3.3.1749-Paris-27.2.1827),

Daughter of Charles Dejean, Seigneur de Manville, married at the age of 19  Joseph II de Sabran aged 66, they had two children.

She was widowed in 1775 at the age of 26.

In 1777 the Prince de Ligne introduced Francoise to the Chevalier Stanislas de Boufflers (1738-1815), 

a brilliant & seductive literary man, and a member of the Knights of Malta.

They corresponded during his stay in Senegal and finally married 1797 in Breslau.

She was of remarkable ironic intelligence in her letters.

She was a famous Lady in the Paris Salons with contacts to Madame Vigée-Lebrun and others.

A Painted Portrait by Elisabeth Vigée-Lebrun exists.

Another Painted Portrait is located at Rheinsberg Palace.

A Portrait Print after LeBrun exists by D. Berger 1787

Jean-Antoine Houdin modelled a Terracotta and Marble Bust

which counts to the Great Portrait-Busts at the end of the 18th Century.


Works of Art by her hand like drawings etc. are up to now unknown and undescribed in literature.

The illustrated drawing by her own hand  was engraved & etched by A. de St. Aubin 1780
