Dragon Classes

True dragons are divided into two broad categories: chromatic and metallic. Chromatic dragons are almost universally evil, seeking only to slake their endless lust for food, treasure, and bloodshed. Metallic dragons are generally good and often protect the lands under their care.

Age Category and Size and Hoards
Many of a true dragon’s abilities, attacks, and other statistics improve as a dragon grows older. These increases are divided into 12 age categories—as a dragon ages. But this is not the only way a dragon can increase its size and power. Most dragons are known for having the insatiable drive to gather treasure, but what has been kept from scholars is why.

Dragons normally gather treasure and guard this with their lives, but few find the understanding to this drive and are able to increase their own power from them. Scholars have often noted dragons sometimes eat certain gems at times, but again the understanding of why is lost.

Dragons at certain periods in time or experience can gain size categories by ingesting amounts of gold piece value of treasure. The amount is listed needed to increase its size to the next larger size which is dependent on its Age Category. If the amount needed to increase its size is not available or the dragon does not wish to ingest the treasure or items if will no longer increase in racial level until it ages to that size as in Pathfinder Bestiary Table or until it has consumed the appropriate amount of treasure value. In the mean time the dragon can freely take Character class levels in its place. When to consume this amount is noted as a size increase in the individual dragon grids and table.
