The Andabashi are a dogfolk race that bears a strong similarity to humanoid jackals.  They have short, black hair and pointy ears and noses.  They tend to be very well groomed and tidy, even when living under primitive conditions.

Andabashi hail from northern Agaddon and are most comfortable in hot, dry climates.  The bulk of Andabashi live in Vatarypa, but many Andabari live as nomads ranging across the deserts and steppes of northern Agaddon.  Andabashi nomads on the savannah are the enemies of the Gnoll tribes of the region and the two races commonly fight over territory.

Andabashi in Vatarypa are known for being intelligent, well educated, and observant, and they commonly drift towards academic, religious, or magical careers.  However, not all Andabashi are well educated, and those Andabashi who are nomads are much more likely to take up physically demanding careers, as are those lower-class Andabashi who do not have access to the education the upper classes do.

Andabashi have a somewhat sinister reputation that is not entirely deserved.  Since as carrion animals Jackals are associated with death, many people associate Andabashi with the practice of necromancy and the Vatarypan Cult of the Dead.  While many Andabashi have been involved in this practice, most Andabashi consider the animation of the dead to be an evil practice and for these Andabashi their participation in the Cult of the Dead is done to ensure that the bodies of their dead are not turned into undead.  To most members of the Solaris church, participation in the Cult of the Dead is seen as universally evil, and the fact that most Andabashi refuse to convert to the Solaris faith doesn't help their case any.

However, even though the Andabashi are not necessarily as evil as many make them out to be, they nevertheless do not get along especially well with humans.  Andabashi are seen by humans as humorless, intense, stern, and arrogant.  Andabashi do generally see humans as their inferiors, and consider many human endeavours and habits to be frivolous dissipation.  Though they recognize that occaisionally humans can achieve great things they consider most humans to be weak-willed and stupid, and Adabashi credit most human achievements to sheer numbers rather than skill.  Naturally this attitude does not endear Andabashi to humans, and in Vatarypa though humans and Andabashi are used to one another's presence they generally live in separate districts.

Andabashi Racial Traits

Andabashi get all the regular dogfolk racial traits, plus the following:
  • +2 Intelligence, +2 Wisdom, -2 Charisma: Andabashi are intelligent and perceptive, but seem cold and aloof.  Andabashi who are from the lower classes or nomadic groups gain a +2 to Strength instead of Intelligence.
  • Jackal Empathy: Andabashi receive a +4 racial bonus on Handle Animal and Diplomacy checks when dealing with jackals.
  • Low Light Vision: Andabashi can see twice as far as humans in conditions of dim light.
  • Darkvision: Andabashi can see in the dark up to 60 feet.
  • Cover of Darkness: Andabashi gain a +2 racial bonus to Stealth checks made in dim light or darkness.
  • Languages: Andabashi speak common.  The Andabashi language is no longer used in common parlance but some old religious texts are written in it and educated Andabashi often learn it.  Andabashi with a high intelligence score can choose from the following bonus languages: Andabashi, Draconic, Dwarven, Elven, Giant, Gnoll, or Lizardfolk.
