Chorister (Bard Archetype)

Choristers are welcomed by all those who would seek to preserve favorable memories (and assiduously avoided by those who would rather their deeds go unnoticed). Choristers are able to tap directly into a shared collection of memories, passed down through the generations of their order, ensuring an unbroken world story.

Alignment: Any neutral.

Chorister Memory (Ex)

At 1st level, if a chorister fails a Knowledge skill check, he may spend one minute in quiet contemplation to access the shared memory of his order. If he takes no other actions and is not interrupted in any way during this time, he may make a second roll, but must accept the results even if they are not higher than the original check.

This ability replaces countersong.

Groupthink (Ex)

At 1st level, a chorister gains a +2 bonus on all aid another actions involving Knowledge checks, and if his check is successful, he increases the bonus he grants by +2.

Similarly, when others use the aid another action to aid the chorister on a Knowledge check, the bonus he receives if they are successful increases by +2.

This ability replaces fascinate.

Inflict Obscurity (Su)

At 1st level, a chorister can use his bardic performance to cause his enemies to become forgettable.

All enemies that can perceive the chorister’s performance receive a Will saving throw (DC 10 + 1/2 the chorister’s level + his Cha modifier) to negate the effect. Those who fail suffer a number of penalties for as long as the performance lasts:

  • They may not use or benefit from aid another actions, provide or receive flanking bonuses, or receive morale bonuses.
  • They cannot use any spell or effect that influences another creature’s behavior (such as charm person, emotion, fear, an attitude influenced by Diplomacy or Intimidate, etc).
  • They suffer a -1 penalty on all Bluff, Diplomacy, and Intimidate checks. This penalty increases by -1 at 6th level and every five levels thereafter.

This is a mind-affecting effect.

This ability replaces inspire courage.

Druidic Magic

At 2nd level, whenever a chorister gains a new spell, he may choose a spell from either the druid or bard spell list.

This ability replaces well-versed.

Record Death (Ex)

At 6th level, the chorister may use his bardic performance to speak with dead, as the spell, asking a corpse one question per round during the performance.

This ability replaces suggestion.
