Phylacteric Chemist (Alchemist Archetype)

Phylacteric chemists are an insular and studious organization, with members who specialize in esoteric knowledge in order to preserve it for posterity. However, a small sect within the order has pursued its understanding of alchemy to the point where its members can use it to alter their bodies profoundly.

Phylacteric chemists sometimes choose to continue their studies abroad on indefinite sabbatical, allowing them to share their skills broadly.

Anthropomorphic Mutagen (Su)

At 1st level, the Phylacteric chemist’s mutagen may actually change his physical form, as the alter self spell, rather than merely altering his attributes.

At 3rd level, the anthropomorphic mutagen can transform the Phylacteric chemist’s body as the beast shape I spell.

At 5th level, the anthropomorphic mutagen may act like beast shape II or monstrous physique I.

At 9th level, the anthropomorphic mutagen may act like beast shape III.

At 13th level, the anthropomorphic mutagen may act like beast shape IV or monstrous physique II.

Unlike other alchemists, the Phylacteric chemist does not always need to drink his entire mutagen at once. When he uses this ability, he chooses how much of his mutagen to drink, in increments of 10 minutes. He may not choose to end the effects of his anthropomorphic mutagen before its duration has expired, and he may not consume another dose while transformed.

This ability modifies mutagen and replaces the bomb abilities gained at 1st, 5th, and 9th levels. The Phylacteric chemist thus first gains bomb (1d6) at 3rd level, not at 1st level as do other alchemists, and his maximum bomb damage is limited to 7d6.
