Acid Spray (Ex)

A digester can spray acid in a 20-foot cone, dealing 4d8 points of damage to everything in that area. The digester can also choose to deliver a concentrated stream of acid that deals 8d8 points of damage against a single target within 5 feet. A DC 17 Reflex save halves the damage for both the cone and the stream. A digester may only use this ability once every 1d4 rounds. The save DC is Constitution-based.


Characters with ranks in Knowledge (arcana) can learn more about a Digester. When a character makes a successful skill check, the following lore is revealed, including the information from lower DCs.

DC 11 Digesters are fast-moving beasts that eat anything organic.
DC 16 A digester is not intelligent enough to know fear. It usually attacks until slain.
DC 21 Although not intelligent, digesters work together to surround prey and attack from several angles.
DC 26 The digester is immune to acid.

Variant Digester

In the world’s northern climes a variant digester exists. These digesters are pale white and use a concentrated spray of liquid gas to freeze meals, which it then breaks up with its feet and then vacuums up the shattered remnants. This digester deals cold damage instead of acid damage with its spray. Its speed reduces to 40 feet, but it gains the Nimble Moves feat as a bonus feat and a +4 racial bonus to Acrobatics skill checks when moving across slippery surfaces such as ice.

Editor's Notes

We noted the following errata for this creature:

1.  Due to its speed, it should have a jumping bonus for acrobatics:
Acrobatics +6 (+22 when jumping)

2.  The Stealth amount is in error:  it should be Stealth +12.
(3 ranks + 3 class + 2 DEX + 4 racial)
