According to Carolyn Sigler (1997) in 1887 Edward Salmon suggested that 'Alice in Wonderland ' was probably inspired by 'From Nowhere to the North Pole'. Carroll wrote a testy letter to the editor in response, asserting that his book had been written first and denying that he had ever read Hood's, and even inserted an announcement in the back of 'The Nursery Alice (1889) further denying Hood's influence. Hood's spoiled and destructive protagonist, Frank, is whisked away to Fairydom by Prince Silverwings to face the results of his thoughtless selfishness in such places as Teumendtland, where broken toys recuperate, the land of the Wild Wallpaperites, where Frank meets the grotesque creatures with which he has adorned his bedroom wallpaper.
