Roscoe's Gone

Two parts. Key of D modal. Modal refers to the use of a C major chord to end each part.

Links
  • The Centralia Parlor Pickers' Society playlist include a solo fiddle recording [mp3].
  • The Stairwell Sisters [utoob]. This is a driving sound. They jump right into part two so fast it seems they skip a measure.
  • Laura Smith plays it on clawhammer banjo with Canote brothers but the video is poor [utoob].
History
In this video [utoob], Catherine Whitesides tells the fiddle class the tune was composed by Nick Bradley on hearing that banjo player Roscoe Holcomb had died.

Roscoe's Gone at a festival jam. That's Mark Olitsky on banjo. This is a short video.
