2017 National AGM/Conference

The 2017 National AGM/Conference was held at the Canterbury University Speech Language Department on September 9th.

It started with a relaxation, then a welcome from Barry Hay, Canterbury President followed by the National AGM attended by delegates and members from Canterbury and Otago/Southland.  President's Report, Treasurer's Report and Web Master reports were given, branch reports from Canterbury and Otago/Southland and then Election of Officers.

Monica Bennett (Canterbury) is President, Barry Hay (Canterbury) is Vice-President and James Fox (Otago) as Secretary. Due to the resignation of Ngaire Renton as Treasurer, Barry Hay picked up this role. Ngaire remains as Web Master for one more year. The Ex-officio positions remain the same, Patron (Andrew Beecroft), SLT Advisor (Anna Hearn) and Auditor ( Jiivan Taylor).

General Business included discussion on the continuation of Otago/Southland branch, improving SLT access for children and direction of the group as whole.

Best New Member is Josh Moot (Canterbury), Best Group is Otago/Southland for running last years National AGM/Conference and Presidents Cup for services to Ngaire Renton.

The location of 2018 National AGM/Conference is TBA.

Before lunch was the Speech Competition, a topic was drawn at random and then spoken on for up to four minutes. Well done to all who participated.

Following lunch, Leslie Dobbs, SLT ran a mini-booster in two parts. Well run and well received.

Then Open Forum and a delicious meal at the Hornby Workingmen's Club rounded off the day. Hope to see you all next time.
