Nottingham Hasler Race

Every year the club runs one of the Midlands Region Hasler races. These form part of the national Hasler marathon series of races that culminate in the Hasler Finals which take place at a different venue each year.

Some years the Nottingham Kayak Club is also host to an Assessment Race. There are a number of these spread around the country and they are used to help select national teams.

Course Modification 2019

Please note that the turn point for the 8 mile/12 mile top turn has moved slightly downstream to give an easier place to turn. (see revised maps)

Both the person placing the buoy & the marshal visited the turn on Thursday 16th to check flow conditions etc. (See Current Conditions below)

Start List as of 18:00 Saturday 18/05/19

There will be an update later if significant changes made.

Please note there are enough Div 2_2 K2s to make a quorate race.

Current Conditions

4, 8 & 12 mile Courses

The Trent is currently fairly low and falling slightly. The flow is moderate/low upstream of Clifton Bridge. Small amount of rain Friday night has not altered conditions.

The course was checked on Thursday 16/05/2019

4 Mile course

No particular hazards should be encountered. Flow rate is low and there are some weeds on the last 200-300 metres up to the turn.

8 Mile course

Please note the slight change to the position of the top turn. (See map of 8 mile turn.)

The rocks between the 4 mile turn & Clifton Bridge can be hazardous to understern rudders and paddle tips. Little time is saved by trying to negotiate through them. 8 & 12 mile paddlers should take care round the small submerged rocks (moving out left.) There are also odd ones as you go up the long straight section to the 8 mile turn.

The usual shallow section to the 8 mile turn has sufficient water for upstream paddling at the edges, although returning midstream is shallower but still passable with understern K2. Heavier paddlers will experience drag midstream.

12 Mile course

Please note the slight change to the position of the top turn.

The 12 mile course uses a 4 mile lap followed by a turn and portage and then an 8 mile lap. The description of this is the same as the 4 mile course with the turn clockwise round Lady Bay Bridge pier followed by the immediate portage left. (See maps.) This is followed by the 8 mile course.

This information will be updated if there are further significant changes.
