Cabbage rolls

26/03/2013

I found this a nice way to get creative with the large amounts of cabbage we had. A very nice variety to standard meatballs.

Ingredients

  • 1 white cabbage

  • salt

  • 1 onion, finely chopped

  • 400 g beef mince

  • 1 tsp caraway seed

  • nutmeg

  • pepper

  • curry powder

  • breadcrumbs

  • 1 egg

  • 30 g butter

  • 1/4 vegetable stock cube

  • 125 ml cream

  • Materials

  • Skewers, toothpicks or string

Preparation

Take 12 nice large leaves from the cabbage and wash. Boil cabbage leaves 10 to 15 minutes in water with salt. Mix mince with onion, caraway seed, nutmeg, salt, pepper, curry powder, breadcrumbs and egg. Divide mince in 12 portions and shape into rolls. Place mince rolls on cabbage leaves, fold leaves up and secure with skewers or string.

Heat butter in a frying pan and fry the cabbage rolls in about 4 minutes until light brown. Add 200 mL water and stock cube and simmer cabbage rolls until cooked in about 25 minutes. Remove rolls from fry pan and add cream to make a sauce.
