Navan Trekkers Information

We are a hill-walking club set up in 2005, and although we are called Navan Trekkers we have members from all over Meath and further afield.

Our core walks are arranged as follows

Walks take place every second Sunday and are mainly in either the Mourne Mountains in Co.Down or the Wicklow Mountains, with occasional trips elsewhere.

Generally there is an easy walk and a hard walk on each date, with walks being graded A, B, C, with C being the easiest grade.

An explanation of the way walks are graded.

C - A walk of 10 to 15 kms generally on a track/road or open country with not a lot of
climbing, generally not more than 400-500m. The walk would be of approx.3.5 to 4 hrs duration.

B - a mountain hike 13 to 16 kms with 500 to 800 metres ascent of
approx 5 hrs duration, walked at a moderate pace.

A - a mountain hike greater than15 kms with 700 metres  ascent or more of at least 5 to
6 hrs duration walked at a faster pace.

Membership is €40, this enrols people in Mountaineering Ireland. Walks are open to anyone holding a current MI card and aspiring members are welcome to join a couple of walks before becoming members. The membership year runs from 1st November to 31st October. Application forms are available for the coming 2016 season.

Proper hillwalking boots, rainwear, hat and gloves are essential. It is also a good idea to bring a change of clothes with you to leave in the car as a change after the walk.

Meeting place for the walks is usually the Fair Green Navan at 8.20am or for some of the walks a map grid reference may be given for the car park at the start of the walk.

Anyone coming on a hike must have rain gear, walking boots, rucksack and packed lunch. People who have no hill-walking experience should first go on a C walk before they try an A or B walk.
