National Bedlington Terrier Club Open Show 26th March 2011.

It was an honour & Privileged to judge at the NBTC Open Show & I must commend the committee on a well run & friendly show. I must also praise the stewards Roy & Ralph for the smooth running of proceedings. Although it was a relatively small entry, I was delighted with the quality of my principle winners & I thank all the exhibitors for taking the time & expense to show their dogs under me, it was greatly appreciated. I found no dogs with bad dentition, however dental hygiene needs to reviewed in some exhibits, teeth are a terriers trade! Again no cracked pads were noted. Correct movement in the breed seems to be an issue at present, with few showing the drive required from the rear. Good muscle tone, built up from road work will help improve movement. As far as possible I tried to look for a well balanced dog, with good movement, sound in angulations and been fit & healthy.
Puppy Dog (3, 2)
  1. Doehey Heartstrings – Pleasing in head, big teeth, thin well laid ears & nice dark eye. In good dark coat, however a little harsh. Good hare’s foot. Well muscled. Moved rather erratically and appeared unsettled on the day, should improve with maturity. Nice type.

Junior Dog (3, 2)
  1. Isotops Bumblebee From Rivendown TAF – Very large teeth. In good linty coat, well constructed & presented. Good shape when stacked, with arch over loin. Would prefer more depth of chest but hopefully this will improve with age, as still only 13 months. A little wide at the front, which was highlighted in movement. Well handled.

Post Graduate Dog (2, 1)
  1. Pengerrig Renown – Up to size dog. Strong in head, with good foreface, nice thin ears & dark eye. Deep in brisket. Good shoulders, clean harefoot. Good textured dark coat. Moved erratically & very proud of tail.

Limit Dog (3)
  1. Rathsrigg Millrace – Good clean head, good bite, teeth & dark eye. Nice long clean kneck running into correctly laid shoulders. Deep through brisket. Good length to height ratio. Good rear angulations. In good hard condition & well coated. Kept shape well on the move. Moved positively on the day both coming & going. Well handled. Pushed hard for top honour. RBD
  2. Sevray Whisper at Jukenblu Shcm – Good clean head, big teeth & dark eye. In good coat & condition. Not the length of 1 & was unsettled on the move, with tail held at a peculiar angle.
  3. Elizdrew Lucky Jim.

Open Dog (4, 1)
  1. Rathsrigg Ask Im – Quality dog, in hard condition, in good dark coat, with nice lean clean head. Big teeth & dark eye. Deep through brisket & kept correct arch over loin whilst moving. Lost out on top spots due to erratic movement on the day.
  2. Bisbee Beachcomber JW – Similar type to 1, however preferred the length to height ratio of 1. Excellent rear angulations & well off for bone. Groomed & handled well.
  3. Harrisclub Mister Moonray.

Special Beginners Dog (1)
  1. Sevray Whisper at Jukenblu.

Puppy Bitch (4, 1)
  1. Doehey Queen of Hearts – Nice puppy bitch, lovely head & strength of foreface. Nice dark coat. Deep in brisket. Well angulated & kept shape on move. Movement a little erratic at present, but this is expected as she is still a youngster. BP. For best puppy I preferred the balance of the bitch & rear angulations over the dog puppy. Should do well
  2. Aireview Cristal Blue – Another nice puppy, lost out to 1 on head. Nice shape which she kept on the move. Again well angulated. Good linty coat. Little erratic in movement but should do well with maturity.
  3. Nebercrackers Rainbow Inca

Junior Bitch (4, 2)
  1. Sharnor Emerald Ice Via Ycart – Good feminine head, nice teeth, with correct bite & fine ears. Good length of kneck falling into well positioned shoulders. Angulations OK. Low hocks. Correct arch over loin which was kept on the move. Not in the best of coats today. Moved OK.

Veteran (6, 1)

  1. Ch Rathsrigg One Misty Morning – Correct size blue dog, oozed quality the minute he stepped into the ring. Excellent length to height ratio. Good clean head. Super reach of Kneck. Good sloping shoulders leading to a deep flat rib cage. Well off for bone. Correct clean hares feet. Strong rear quarters that were emphasised on the move. Good blue coat. Looked a picture when stacked and did not lose his topline on the move. Moved soundly both coming & positively with drive going away. At just over 7 years of age, remains a top exhibit for the breed and a worthy winner of the best class of the day and going on to win the top honour. BD, BV & BIS.
  2. Ch Swiftstream Inka Hoots with Upnorth – Another quality exhibit, put down to perfection in excellent condition. Same attributes as 1, difficult to fault, however preferred the length to height ratio of 1. Just a shame she didn’t appear for the bitch challenge.
  3. Mollora Fanfare for Ruffsfurze
  4. Bisbee La Boheme
  5. Miteymidgets Chrysatoes
