Northwoods Radio

From the first loon calls in December 2005 that open each show, Northwoods Radio broadcasted from it's "little cabin in the woods" from deep within the cedar swamp.

Northwoods Radio Native Program

Hosted by the "Jackpine Savage" NWR played an extremely varied and eclectic mix of music. Early morning broadcasts often highlighted gregorian chants, beat poetry, and Native American music, while the station tended to play hard rock (primarily ‘70s rock, but sometimes heavy metal) on its evening broadcasts. Often a program would feature a single genre or artist such as Yo Yo Ma's Silk Road Ensamble, gypsy punk music from Gogol Bordello or the outrageous Swedish band; The Leningrad Cowboys.

Most Northwoods Radio broadcasts were live, with prerecorded music, IDs, and QSL information spots, with live breaks from JPS about the station's antennas, programming and shout outs to listeners who logged the broadcast on various internet forums.

From 2011, the station began mailing two-sided color postcards featuring nature scenes from the north woods. The station has offered a card specifically for each year from 2011 through 2017.

Beginning in 2015 The Jackpine Savage was joined on air with the Jackpine Sweetheart for a couple of shows including "The Trailride", and the "Sweetheart's Cars" programs.

NWR operated on both AM and SSB with 40 Watts alternating between two primary antennas. A 40M dipole at a height of approximately 50' and a Phased Delta Loop Array. The station was logged consistently throughout the eastern coast as well as reception reports from the western United States, Canada and Europe.
