Sumo Madness
General Requirements
NEW RULE - ELEVATED BOARD between 2" and 4" above the floor.
NEW RULE - Robot size is limited to 10" x 10" x 10" in size
Teams will need to choose between LEGO or Open Brackets
Each school can only have 2 Sumo-Bots per bracket
Schools may choose to bring a third Sumo-Bot as a backup/alternate
Four Brackets
Autonomous - LEGO Parts ONLY
Robots act independently without user control
Lego parts are in factory original condition from any kit
Remote Control - LEGO Parts Only
The top six autonomous LEGO robots will be placed in a single elimination remote control play-off bracket.
Open Autonomous Design -
Must be programmed to work autonomously.
Can use ANY robot programming platform you want.
Materials used to construct the robot must be safe to handle. Judges at the event will inspect the robot, to determine if it can be safely used. Possible reasons for a robot to be considered unsafe include but are not limited to sharp edges, loose parts, exposed wires, or excessive use of elastic tension.
You may use multiple 3-D printed parts but, each printed part is limited to 2"x2"x2" inches
Robots from the LEGO-only bracket may also be entered into the open bracket only if there are not enough robots entered in the open event.
Open Remote Control -
The top six autonomous open robots will be placed in a single elimination remote control play-off bracket.
Competition Board
3-foot circular diameter white board elevated between 4" and 6" inches above the floor.
1.25-inch black border around the edge
Rules
Best out of three (3) matches.
After three missed starts a tie will happen.
Judges may call stalemate after 10-seconds of no progress (or longer at their discretion).
The first robot that goes off the board and touches the floor the match is over.
Winners will be determined by double elimination brackets.
IMPORTANT: Robot must not exceed a size of 10" x 10" x" inches
Robots will start COMPLETELY inside the circle, facing away from each other, and will be placed at a random angle by the judges on the board (this will be strictly enforced) See the diagram on placement below. The first motion of the robot must be a turn that is at least 90 degrees in one direction.
