Things to bring - NEED NEW EXAMPLE LIST OF THINGS TO BRING

HISTORY

The Middle School Technology Design Challenge (MSTDC) was established in 1998 by the Somerset County School Superintendent, Mr. David Livingston and local engineering enthusiasts. MSTDC originally was held at the Somerset County Vocational and Technical High School but moved its location to Bridgewater Raritan Middle School in 2009. The MSTDC is now organized and run through the contributions of the dedicated team mentors.

The MSTDC has a substantial history in the local region and promoted Science Technology Engineering and Math (STEM) in education years before anyone ever heard the term S.T.E.M. Through the years these innovative educators and dedicated volunteers have provided a powerful learning and life changing experience for the participating students.

EVENT OBJECTIVE

The main goal is to encourage the students to strategize the best way to creatively solve a problem. In this case, the problem is to score as many points when attempting these challenges. Some parts of these tasks are quite difficult, so compromises may need to happen. Like any challenge, the students should develop a plan (or plans) with timelines or steps. Part of the plan could be to create a team and divide up the work. For more ideas about this, search the internet for “Engineering Design Process”, you’ll find some helpful information. - by: Jeff Steele, 2014
