Increasing Student Engagement Through Games Based Learning

EdTechTeam Thailand Summit featuring Google for Education

NIST, Bangkok, Thailand

January 24, 2015

Games are fun: players achieve goals, rewards and gain instant feedback on their performance. Using the experience

of designing and executing an exciting eight week mathematics unit using game based principles, learn to mash up different Google Apps for Education to generate student interest. Whether it’s YouTube to share the narrative of the game, Google Sites as the main spot for students to access the game or Google Sheets to store your assessment, discover how to create an engaging games based unit tied to specific standards. Learn how to make learning possible through a ‘main storyline’ and possible ‘side quests’. Discussions will focus on how student choice of tasks and player generated content can increase student engagement and performance without making learning feel like work. No previous experience playing or understanding games necessary for this workshop.
