Mauro Boffa - PhD in Economics

Hi

I am an economist with a strong background in quantitative methods and economic modelling. My main area of expertise is international trade. In the last eigth years I have produced academic research and policy work, both independently and in conjunction with research teams, on issues ranging from trade policy, trade costs and global value chains, to international e-commerce and exchange rates.

About Me

I am currently working as an Advisor for the International movement of goods division of the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO). Do not hesitate to contact me to get the latest version of my working papers, ask questions about my CV, discuss research or tell me what you are up to.

I believe that academic research and policy work should go hand in hand, reinforcing each other in a unique mix of rigor and entrepreneurship. To that effect, I approach economic questions in a strictly logical and yet creative manner; always focusing on the core problem and the sharpest way to face the challenges around it. I think the discipline thrives on as long as the findings are properly conveyed to all the interested parties, regardless of their level of expertise.

During my years as a teaching assistant I had the privilege to teach several classes. My teaching philosophy is to encourage independent thinking. I seek to help students to master their tools, and not only fill their toolbox, so they will be able to tackle future problems with an open mindset.

Besides from being an economist I am a chess enthusiast (USCF chess master) and I have a passion for music (session bass player).
