drawings

draftsmanship has always been a lifeline to ideas. sometimes lines lead to mass or perhaps texture, gesture and immediacy. my current drawings reflect a seismographic reproduction of percussion music.

often beginning with blind contour drawings, my subjects become transposed versions of sheet music - or more accurately, its tablature - a shorthand notation of music where it is left up to the artist to fill-in the gaps or leaving space where required. the subjects often are taken from rather innocuous moments, such as watching a dj spin, two dancers improvising, or a lone woman sipping coffee.

there are moments when the randomness of the linework is just that: Random.
