We are looking for courses to offer as part of this year's Kaleidoscope program.
Karigon Kaleidoscope is a series of after-school classes offered to all grade levels covering a variety of topic or interests. Our hope is to expose your child to new and exciting discoveries and perhaps plant the seed for new talents and interests!
A class is four 1-hour sessions that will run from March 12th - April 1st, typically taking place on Tuesdays or Thursdays; however, we will work to accommodate any schedule!
If you can't teach a class, perhaps your workplace offers educational programs to schools - let us know!
We are also looking for help organizing Kaleidoscope, if you are interested please contact Debi Stowell at debibuz@gmail.com.
Examples of classes that have been offered in the past include:
Card Magic (Gr 3-5, $45)
Fundamentals of card magic, from how to shuffle to how to find a spectator’s card in the deck. Students will receive a high-quality deck of cards, as well as several resources to continue learning after the classes have ended.
Shenendeyoga (Gr K-5, $15)
A movement based class that incorporates fun, age appropriate physical activities and games that teach children to enjoy physical activity and to get them active. The class teaches yoga, mindfulness and age appropriate introductions to meditation and yoga. Students should bring in their own yoga mats or a towel from home each week.
LEGOs (Gr 3-5, $12)
Come join us as we inspire each other to imagine, create, and have fun building with our motorized LEGO kits. Each kit can be made into many different mechanical creations! Students will bring home a mini-figure to keep. Please do not bring any LEGO from home.
Balloon Twisting 101 (Gr 3-5, $35)
Balloon Gal Jenny will teach you a step-by-step approach to learning the art of balloon twisting. Students will first learn how to blow-up, tie a knot and the classic dog shape. After mastering the basic twists, students then use their new skills to create their own unique balloon creations for a totally unforgettable finale show! Each participant will receive their own balloon pump, apron, instructions and balloons to take home and practice during the week. And everyone gets to keep the balloons they made and take them home to show their family and friends!
Paint Your Own Pottery with Arts and Glass (Gr K-5, $55)
Get ready for a 4-session journey through the worlds of some of the great artists of the 19th & 20th centuries! Students will create their own works of art in the styles of Henri Matisse, Georgia O’Keeffe, Jackson Pollock, and Andy Warhol. Each class will focus on a different one of the artists, explaining their life and what they contributed to the world of art. The students will use what they learn about each artist to paint their own plate, bowl, mug, and trivet. They will get to utilize different tools including paintbrushes, glaze pencils and marbles. They will also learn about the firing process of their pottery. Each project will be returned to the school the following week; all pieces are food safe.
