Sow's Ear

It has been said that you can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear. At college of the redwoods out first project takes this idea to cabinetry. They say you can't make a beautiful cabinet out of poplar. Some people use this as an excuse, but I saw it as a challenge.

I put in a curly maple back panel and a drawer with a mahogany drawer front.

The door is made of panels glued at angles, that are then planed from the outside and then planed on the inside with a coopering (convex bottomed) plane to a gentle curve.
