Artist Statement

My artwork focuses upon the magic and beauty of the natural world. Some pieces were created at the cusp of spring equinox and celebrate new life flowing into the full bounty of summer solstice when things are ripe and ready for picking. Other pieces were created at a time of year between fall equinox and winter solstice: the harvests are in, all beasts great and small gather their reserves and prepare for the long cold months ahead. This is a time of celebration, turning to quiet reserve and reflection. Through careful study & exploration of the natural world I try to capture the beauty & essence of nature and the delicate life cycle we exist in within my work.

Most of my artwork is created en plein air, from a backpack full of art supplies, while hiking & exploring the wilds to capture the atmospheric changes in light, color and topography. I am inspired to keep looking: always learning, growing and changing. I greatly enjoy getting out and about with my husband Kenny and young son Holt. We are avid explorers: adventuring cross state and country through the Appalachian and Adirondack Mountains to southwest Montana where things grow wild and woolly-- all are inspiration for my expressions in oil, acrylic,    watercolor, pen and ink, pastel and photography: landscapes, still-life and nature studies. These adventures into the wild inspire a sense of being and place.

My studio is located in a mid-1800's carriage house in historic, downtown Carlisle. This is also the headquarters of my art gallery and shop Earth Artisan & Outfitter. EAO offers one of a kind, earth-based and nature-inspired fine art and photography, goods & gear to inspire the outdoor lifestyle and provide our clients over twenty-years experience as artists, art educators, adventurers, arborists and guides. EAO has partnered with conscientious vendors such as Lenca Cafe, Tuscarora Woodworks, Syracuse Cultural Workers, Tree in a Box, Hedge Ring Herbals and several others who value diversity and life, all species. We also support Buffalo Field Campaign and their mission to educate the public, support a healthy & balanced ecosystem and protect the last wild, free roaming herds of buffalo through the BFC Bucks for Buffs Fundraiser, sale of BFC stickers and a portion of sales from our own buff-related artwork donated to BFC. We are open seasonally during weekend open house events. Follow our FB page to learn more!

I have a BS in Art Education specializing in painting and sculpture and an MA in Humanities with a studio emphasis, both from Penn State University. In addition to all of my other adventures, I spent eighteen years teaching art in the public school system. I appreciate the opportunity to share my artwork and my story with you. Please visit Earth Artisan and Outfitter to learn more!
