12/8/23: Lane has defended his general exam, officially advancing to doctoral candidacy! His exceptional preparedness and remarkable progress were lauded by all committee members. He has truly been a driving force, reviving our cardiac regeneration project  program at LSU. Congratulations, Lane!

We enjoyed celebrating another successful Fall semester with a happy hour. Thank you to everyone for their hard work and dedication, which have made our progress possible.

11/9/23: Our Academic Surgical Congress abstract (with Lane and Kenny's contributions), titled "Sustained Oxygenation and ROS-Scavenging by Lignin Composites Promote Diabetic Wound Healing," was selected for the Plenary Session (top 1% of abstracts) of the 19th Annual Academic Surgical Congress in Washington, DC. Congratulations, Tanuj and Dr. Balaji!

10/24/23: Lane is one of the awardees of Charles E. Severance Endowed Scholarship for the graduate students in our department. Congratulations!

10/14/23:  We presented our multiple research projects at BMES and reconnected with good old friends and past students - Grace, Alexis and Hamid. Micah won the 3rd place winner in the Top 10 High School Poster Competition (Gene Co-expression Network Analysis of the Genotype-Tissue Expression Dataset from the Left Ventricle)!

9/13/23: JoAnne is back after a break. Welcome, JoAnne!

9/3/23: We have several BMES presenations this year. The solution-free staining project will be presented in the platform session of Technologies for Emerging Infectious Diseases to Bioinformatics. Micha's project on the analysis of GTEx datasets was selected for Top 10 finalist in the High School Expo and Poster Competition. The collaborative project with the Balaji lab is accepted for poster presentation with the critical piece of works from Lane's experiments and Kenny's analyses. Further, Stephen will present a poster with his project through the NSF IRES Process Development for Cell and Tissue Biomanufacturing Program in Hannover, Germany. Excellent works and congratulations!

8/25/23: We have the first lab meeting with new members. Welcome Fateme and Avery!

8/12/23: Micah presented his summer research in the High School Summer Research poster session. He is going to run the national competition in the Annual Meeting of Biomedical Engineering Society (Seattle, WA).

8/7/23: Rayana joined our lab!

8/7/23: Our wound healing work is awarded the Young Scholar Award in Biomedical Engineering at UKC 2023 (Dallas, TX).

5/19/23: Week of commencement and celebration! Congrats, Alyson, Kenny and Miller! With BE Honors students (Lauren with Dr. Lima and Chloe with Dr. Kwon).

5/10/23: Farewell to Kenny and Miller. Kenny will pursue his PhD in BME at Cornell University and Miller will join the BME program at Tulane University. And Stephen and Peter will leave the lab for their summer research programs. We also expect more people joining in the fall semester!

5/4/23: The dean (Dr. Wornat) and the department chair (Dr. Lima) gave me the tenure and promotion letter this afternoon. I'd like to thank those who have been working with me for the last 7 years on multiple different projects. I also received Donald W. Clayton Engineering Excellence Award for Outstanding Mentor for Graduate Students!

4/26/23: The first Graduate Research Conference at LSU today. Lane is presenting his most recent GB1 (Structure-Informed Machine Learning-assisted Directed Evolution) manuscript in the poster session.

4/21/23: It's Discover Day. Kenny presented our systems biology results for the first time! Peter presented our GB1 manuscript. Thanks for those coming to support these two excellent students, including Peter's father and Peter's girlfriend).

4/16/23: Chris from Biological Sciences joined our lab!

3/29/23: Stephen was accepted to the NSF IRES Process Development for Cell and Tissue Biomanufacturing Program in Hannover, Germany over this summer. Congrats!

3/13/23: Lane, Kenny and Stephen organized and volunteered for ENGage 2023. We demonstrated how we can use AlphaFold2 for designing a protein. And happy lunch with the Kwon lab at Torchy's Tacos!

12/30/22: Miller is awarded the Star and Crescent Foundation of Louisiana Scholarship. Congrats!


12/21/22: Yinka's abstract is selected for the Yong Investigator Award in the Wound Healing Society Annual Meerting at National Habor, MD. 


12/14/22: Claire also completed her qualifying exam. Congrats! Claire and Lane have will work together to make this protein engineering project moving forward.

12/13/22: Lane successfully completed his qualifying exam. Congrats and a more exciting journey is waiting for you. 

10/15/22: We went to BMES and presented 1 talk and 3 posters. This is the fruition of the last 4 years of collaboration with Dr. Balaji at Baylor College of Medicine and Dr. Joohyun Kim at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Thank you, especially, Lane, Yinka, Phillip and Olivia for wonderful presentation! More exciting results coming!!!

4/11/22: Dr. Jung received the LSU Alumni Association Rising Faculty Research Award! This award recognizes faculty at the rank of Assistant Professor who has outstanding records of scholarship and published records.

12/3/21: We began the semester with the hurricane Ida and it's already the end of the semester. We celebrated the hard work of all these students, many good progresses in our regenerative engineering projects and Justin's graduation. Congrats, Justin!

5/13/2021: After Adam had fun in CO, we finally celebrated his graduation. Good luck in UCSD! We already talked about the next plans!!! (everyone is vaccinated)

5/10/2021: Sarah is accepted to the MARC program (supported by the NIH Training grant) for her research projects. Congratulations, Sarah!

2/8/2021: Our cardiac tissue engineering project was recommended for the NSF CAREER award (This is the most prestigious award for a Tenure-Track Assistant Professor from NSF)! I truly appreciate those who worked together for this project!!! LSU COE website & Inha University alumnus interview

2/1/2021: I'd like to thank Dr. Myungwoong Kim for the invitation to the 1st International Symposium in the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering at Inha University. It's truly my honor to go back to my college to share our tissue engineering research.

10/8/2020: Jorge successfully defended his dissertation. It was a long, challenging project for both of us, but he will come out of the journey with 8 manuscripts! Congrats! This is what Joel did for me and I really wanted to do this to my students.

3/28/2020: Both of our HS science project won the 2nd (Amelia) and the 3rd (Olivia) place in the State Science Fair. Congratulations and we thank again for those helping the HS students last year.

3/10/2020: Akbar will receive the Scott-Windham Scholarship in the Scholarship Banquet on 3/31 (cancelled due to COVID-19). Congrats!

2/19/2020: HS science projects from our lab won the 1st and 2nd places in the regional Science and Engineering Fair. Congrats, Amelia (1st) and Olivia (2nd)! We thank Hamid, Jake and Brittany for helping these HS students.

2/18/2020: Maggie joined our lab! She has contacted me to ask questions on Biomedical Engineering since her HS years (in Baton Rouge Magnet HS). And her passion on BME is every growing. Welcome!

2/7/2020: Angelina from the Ban Franklin HS in New Orleans, LA joined our lab as a HS intern (HSSR program through the College of Engineering). She will work on a project for the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair throughout the year. Welcome!

1/20/2020: Our POC device work is accepted for an oral presentation in the MicroHematology workshop (Apr 2020 in Chicago, IL). Our collaborators Tina and Steve at Noul will present the work. Congrats!

12/17/2019: Congratulations, Brittany! She graduates this week. This is our continued tradition (from the Ogle lab)!

Also, Sultan completes her visiting scholar program next week and continues her MS in Bioengineering. Jane finished the machine intelligence project and continues her Research Associate position in the Department of Biological Sciences. Thank you guys for working hard in the lab. This is our 2019 Holiday party!

5/9/2019: Mackenzie's graduation is this Sat. She worked on the collaboration project with the team at the Ochsner Hospital in New Orleans. We send off her, but welcome Hanna!!! Hanna takes over Mackenzie's project.

4/26/2019: Akbar is awarded the Barry Goldwater Scholarship. The Goldwater Foundation is a federally endowed agency established by Public Law 99-661 on November 14, 1986. The Scholarship Program honoring Senator Barry Goldwater was designed to foster and encourage outstanding students to pursue careers in the fields of mathematics, the natural sciences, and engineering. The Goldwater Scholarship is the preeminent undergraduate award of its type in these fields. Many congrats, Akbar!

4/10/2019: Akbar's (and Jorge's) research is selected for oral presentation in LSU Discover day! and Akbar won the 3rd place in the oral presentation STEM division category! Many congrats!

4/6/2018: Our cardiomyocyte differentiation proposal was recommended for funding (rank 1) from the Board of Regents Support Fund over three years!

3/22/2018: Allie's project won the third place in the Biomedical Engineering Category at the Louisiana State Science and Engineering Fair 2018. Congratulations!

2/22/2018: Katie won Graduate School Dean's Travel Award for presenting her MSC-ECM composite work at ISCT 2018 in Montreal, Canada. Congratulations!

2/16/2018: Our review paper submitted to Frontiers in Biotechnology and Bioengineering is selected from the LSU Library Open Access Author Fund to cover the article processing fee.  Congrats, Jorge, the first author!

1/5/2018: Allie's project won the first place in Biomedical Engineering category of the science fair at SJA.  Her project title is "Formation of size-tunable organoids from hydrogel arrays".  Congrats, Allie!

12/12/2017: Our lignin project is awarded Tipton Team Research Award from LSU AgCenter and LSU Foundation.  The entire NSF EPSCoR team is awarded for their excellent progress and contribution in lignin chemistry and healthcare application. 

11/29/2017: Katie is awarded the Flagship Ph.D. Graduate Assistantship from the College of Engineering at LSU. Congratulations!

10/6/2017: Jorge won the Graduate Student Travel Award from LSU Grad School for presenting his collagen-lignin paper in BMES. Congrats!

7/14/2017: Katie's abstract submitted to IFATS was accepted for an oral presentation. Congrats!
