Section I- Quick Start Guide

Posting homework or an assignment (5 easy steps to Edline happiness):

Step 1- Log in

Step 2- Select a class from the left under “My Classes”

Step 3- Select “Assignments” in the upper right under “Contents”

Step 4- In the upper right click on “Add”

Step 5- This screen has several things to fill in- you need to at least do the “Document Title” and “Calendar Date.” For example, if today is March 1st, and I am assigning homework for tomorrow I would:

    • Put under “Document Title” the name of your class and the assignment- (ex. Latin II- pg. 100, C 1-10)

    • Put today’s date in “Calendar Date” – (ex. 3/1/05)

    • If this is all you want, click on “Save and Return” - your assignment will now show up under the assignments screen, and you can go back and change it by clicking the “edit” button next to the assignment.

    • If you click “done” it will take you back to the class screen.

IF YOU’RE HAPPY, STOP HERE: If you’re of brave soul and pure heart, read on. There is much more you can do if you so desire.

Section II- More on the ‘Create Document’ Screen

Document Title- The title is what will appear on the calendar- this field can be used to post the basic assignment (ex. Latin II- pg. 100 C 1-10).

Document Summary- this will give the students more information about the assignment when they move their mouse over it.

Calendar Date- This is the date when the assignment will show up on the calendar.

Repeat Until- if this is more than a 1 night assignment, you can have it show up on the calendar for multiple days- Type today’s date under “Calendar date” and the final day under “Repeat Until” and your assignment will show up on the calendar every day until it is due.

Add Content- If it is more than a simple assignment (ex. Latin II- pg. 100, C 1-10), you can give additional information here.

Either:

choose “Enter text by hand” and fill in more information about this assignment, or

choose “Import an existing file.” Then click on “browse,” find the file, double click it, and then click on “Import.”

Multiple Postings – If you teach more than one section of the same class, this will save you much time and grief. Under “Available Groups” click on the other section, then click “add.” This will then display the same assignment on both classes’ page.

When you are finished will all of this, click “Save and Return.”

Section III- Posting tests

This is just like posting a homework assignment, except for some reason it is its own category- just follow the same simple steps as before, except click on “Tests” instead of “Assignments”

Step 1- Log in

Step 2- Select a class from the left under “My Classes”

Step 3- Select “Test” in the upper right under “Contents”

Step 4- In the upper right click on “Add”

Step 5- This screen has several things to fill in- you need to at least do the “Document Title” and “Calendar Date.”:

    • Put under “Document Title” the Title of the test- (ex. Latin II- Quiz on 3rd Conjugation)

    • Put the date of the test in “Calendar Date”

    • If this is all you want, click on “Save and Return” - your test will now show up under the assignments screen, and you can go back and change it by clicking the “edit” button next to the test.

    • If you want, you can give additional information about the test (what the format is, what the students need to study, etc) using the ‘Document Summary’ and ‘Add Content’ fields.

    • If you click “done” it will take you back to the class screen.

Section IV- “My Contents” What is this?

In the upper left hand corner of the homepage is the “My Contents” box, with 3 options to choose from:

My File Locker- in the upper left hand corner of the page under “My Contents” is the “My File Locker” link. This allows you to upload any word document to your Edline page for your students (Such as review sheets, worksheets, etc.). It is very similar to uploading an assignment sheet.

Step 1- select “My File Locker” under “My Contents”

Step 2- select “add”

Step 3- Fill in all the fields like you did for a homework assignment

Step 4- Import your document (click “Import an Existing file”, then “Browse”, double click on file, click “Import”). Make sure to specify which classes will see this document by selecting them under “Multiple Postings” (just like above) and you’re done- click “Save and Return.”

The document you have created or imported will now be listed in the upper right hand corner of the class screen under “CONTENTS” (along with the ‘assignments’ and ‘tests’ links).

Private Reports - This is where grading reports show up

Combined Calendar – Clicking on this will show a calendar for the month, with all the assignments you have posted. If you click on an individual assignment or test, it will give you the additional information you entered.

Section V- Grades

If you use Intergrade Pro, your grades will automatically be displayed in Edline.

IF YOU DON’T WANT THESE GRADES TO BE DISPLAYED IN EDLINE, YOU MUST CHANGE THIS IN INTEGRADE PRO.

In Integrade Pro, go to ‘Edit Tasks,’ select a task, and uncheck the box that says ‘Allow export to Intergrade Pro Link.’ You must do this for all tasks in all classes.

To see what the students will see in Edline, select a class, and under “Contents” in the upper right hand corner, select “Grades.” Then select an individual student and this will show you what he or she sees when she logs into Edline.

Section VI- Et Alia

Under the “My Classes” box are other boxes you might want to know about:

My Activities- this links you to stuff about Integrade Pro

My Other Groups- this links you to the general Irvington District Site- mostly district news and Athletic schedules.

Command Center- this section is not nearly as exciting as it sounds. There are 2 links:

“Change password”- just follow the directions, and

“Manage Account”- this is mostly about your email address and security question.

When you click on a specific class’s page, the Command Center will have two new options:

“Send email”- this will allow you to write an send an email to one or all of the students of this class- just follow the directions

“Manage Class”- there are a few things you might want to do here:

Class Name- you probably should leave this alone, we already entered the names for each of our classes

Class ID- don’t touch this either

Class description- you can put whatever you want here- I like to use it to caption the picture I post (see below)

Image- this can be used to post a picture on each class’s site- Click browse, find the image you want to post (you must first have saved the picture on your computer), and double click it. Then, at the bottom of the page click “Save and Return” and your picture should appear on the class page- NOTE- the picture cannot be too large (less than 75 megabytes) or else Edline will not upload it for you.

Class Management- leave this alone- the computer people will update our class lists for us

Class Visibility- As it is set, anyone can view your page, including parents, all students, principals, etc. If you so choose, you can limit the people who can see your page by clicking the “Change Visibility” button. On the next screen, click the dot under “Limited” and make sure only the boxes of those you want to view your pages are checked.
