The picture of plant's section

This project won an excellent prize the highest award in 2009 Suntory midorie design contest (a jury; Mr. Kengo Kuma, Mr. Naoki Iijima, Mr. Hiroshi Hasegawa, Mr. Yoshio Kato). We wanted to express "the vitality" that the plant lasted with this work.

Artificial soil Puff-Cal incorporated in design given condition does not fall apart at light weight, and has high earth-water preservation power. As I use this property, a wall of the perpendicular ground is created. In diagnosing a wall as a section, a leaf or a flower, a root can be seen at the same time. I show the root that cannot usually see, so I feel the whole of plants and the vitality.

I show the root, because Puff-Cal has the ability that grows the root. There are many air bubbles inside, and the atmosphere that is necessary for the growth of the root is kept, so the growth speed is normal double on the ground and is normal 5 times under the ground. I expressed technology that crystallized into an invisible part in a section. I assume that install it in the various places, so I prepared various proportions and the different thing of the scale such as small-type, slim-type, thick-type, or box-type. Using semitransparent material like” Ant-Aquarium", the figure of a three-dimensional root may appear.

Not only the visible beautiful flower and leaf but also roots to support them are felt, if such a tree planting design is possible・・・.

植物断面の絵画

2009 Suntory midorie design contest (審査員 隈研吾氏,飯島直樹氏,長谷川浩己氏,加藤芳夫氏)にて優秀賞を頂いた作品.私たちはこの作品で,植物のもつ「生命力」を表現したいと考えた.

設計与件に織り込まれた人工土壌パフカルは軽量で崩れず保水力の高い新しい土壌.この性質を生かすと壁面に垂直な地面の壁が出来る.壁を断面と見立てることで,葉や花と根っこが同時に見える状態を作った.普段は目に見えない根まで植物の全てを見せ,生物のかたち全体とその生命力を感じる.

根を見せたいと思ったのは,パフカルに植物の根が良く育つ特徴があることも関係している.内部に多くの気泡があり,根の生育に必要な空気が保たれるためで,成長スピードは通常の培養土比で,地上部で2倍,根っこで5倍.普段は目に見えない部分に結晶する技術を断面で表現した.

形状は様々な場所に設置することを想定して,板状を基本とし,小さなもの,細長いもの,分厚いもの,箱のようなものなど,プロポーションやスケールの違うものを用意した.アントアクアリウムのように半透明の素材を使い,より立体的な根の姿を見せることも出来るかもしれない.

目に見える美しい花や葉のみならず,それらを支える根も感じられる,そんな緑化デザインが出来れば・・・.
