絵画と向き合うために
前橋市の収蔵品として予想される約８５０点の芸術品のほとんどが，油彩，日本画，水彩などの平面作品であることから，「絵画と向き合うためどのような空間が望ましいか？」について考えました．
ここで提案するのは，照明器具や空調吹出口などの異物を壁や天井から消し去った極端にシンプルな「ゴースト」と名づけたギャラリーです．ここには，人と絵画の二者以外は存在しないにもかかわらず，空間の温度，湿度は一定に保たれ，鑑賞に必要な照度や静けさが確保されています．
「ゴースト」とは？
「ゴースト」という言葉は，白いテフロン膜によってシームレスに囲まれたギャラリーの総称として使っています．ゴーストには「魂」という意味があります．ここでは，空きスペースに入る魂という意味で，「ゴースト」としています．テフロン膜は光や温度を透過するため，膜の外側の環境パラメーターを操作することで，膜に包み込まれた内部空間の環境条件を制御することが出来ます．視覚的には，背景のような壁と天井だけが存在することになります．軽量な膜構造の空間は，スチールのフレームとワイヤーによって周りの柱や梁に固定されています．
完全なホワイトキューブ
「ゴースト」の皮膜の外に，空調設備，調湿設備，照明設備を設けることで，「ゴースト」の内側は照明や空調吹き出し口の一切無い，完全なホワイトキューブとなります．
裏に隠れる設備
「ゴースト」の皮膜の外に照明器具を灯すことで，白い壁の一部がぼんやりと光るような照明計画とし，絵画に最適な照度でグレアの強くない鑑賞光を確保します．絵画の額縁のガラスの表面でも光源が反射しないので，鑑賞の妨げになりません．また，「ゴースト」外側の温度と制御することで，展示空間に空調吹出口を設けることなく，温度と湿度を一定に保ちます．
バックヤード
「ゴースト」によって切りとられたギャラリースペースの裏側は，搬入経路などのバックヤード動線としても利用します．
中心市街地の空室を活用
敷地周辺地域は空室率が高く，有効活用が望まれています．
将来的には，周辺建物の空き室内に小さな「ゴースト」を拡散することで，市民美術館のサテライト的な市民ギャラリーや，ワークショップスペース，アーティストレジデンスを設けることも出来ます．
無理のない既存改修計画
本計画では，一部，床スラブや小梁を撤去していますが，柱や大梁に対しては手を加えていないため，本体主要構造部へ及ぼす影響はほとんど無いものとしています．外装のRC壁は，非構造壁である為，これらを撤去する事で，自重を大幅に減らす事が出来，長期時および耐震時にも構造性能が向上します．また，内部仕上げも軽量な材料を選択する事で，構造的負荷を減らしています．

To be opposite to a picture
The most of about 850 works of art expected as a store product of Maebashi are planar works like oil painting, a Japanese traditional painting, pictures in watercolors, so I think that "What kind of space meets it to be opposite to a picture?"
We suggested here is a gallery that is removed lighting equipment or an air conditioning outlet from a wall and the ceiling, it is very simple and named "Ghost". Though there is not it here other than the two: a person and the picture, temperature and humidity of the space are kept a fixed, and illumination and the stillness that are necessary for appreciation are secured.
What is "Ghost”?
I use the word "ghost" as the general term of the gallery among the seamlessness by a white Teflon film. A ghost has a meaning of "the soul". Here, I regard it as "ghost" in a meaning of the soul to be in the vacant space. In the Teflon film penetrating light and temperature, so if I operate an environmental parameter outside of the film, it can control an environmental condition of inside space surrounded on a film. You see only a wall and a ceiling such as the background. The space of lightweight film structure is fixed to a pillar and a beam by the steel frame and wire.
A complete white cube
In establishing air conditioning equipment, humidity control equipment, lighting facilities outside the film of "the ghost" the inside of "ghost" becomes the complete white cube which does not have illumination and the all of the air conditioning outlet.
Facilities under cover of the back
In turning on a lighting equipment outside the film of the ghost, I plan the illumination that the part of a white wall glitters darkly, it keep non-glare-light that most suitable illumination for the picture. Because a source of light does not reflect in the surface of the glass, do not disturb appreciation. In addition, it is kept a fixed temperature and humidity if the outside temperature of "the ghost" is controlled without establishing the air conditioning outlet.
Backyard
The backside of gallery space cut by "ghost" is used as backyard lines of flow of import courses.
I utilize the empty room of the center city area.
An empty room rate is high in the site outskirts area, and effective practical use is expected. I scatter a small "ghost" in the future in the space room of neighboring buildings, it can be provided citizen's GALLERY such as the satellite of the citizen museum and workshop space, an artist condominium.
Reasonable existing repair plan
By this plan, I remove a floor slab and a small beam partly, but I do not add a hand for a pillar and the girder, so there is little influence to give to the main structure department of the main body. Because an RC wall of the decorations is a non-structure wall, it can largely reduce self-respect by removing these, Structure performance improves for a long term or earthquake proofing. And, because the inside finish chooses lightweight materials, it reduce structural load.
