Friends of the Library

Who are the Friends?

The Friends of the Etowah Carnegie Library was established in the summer of 2010. They are a 501(c)3 non-profit volunteer organization dedicated to supporting the library and its programs. They are solely supported by volunteers and donations from the community.

What do the Friends do?

The Friends seek to enhance library services and facilities through activities beyond the scope of the library's regular budget. This is accomplished through fundraising, volunteering, and raising the community profile of the library.

The Friends have helped to realize many projects at the library, including the installation of a wheelchair accessible lift, the purchase of new bookshelves and computer carrels, the digitization of the Etowah Enterprise newspaper, and sponsorship of the library's historical marker.

The Friends also sponsor library programs on an ongoing basis, including the Summer Reading Program and annual holiday programs.

Get Involved!

By joining the Friends, you join other concerned citizens dedicated to promoting the value of books, literacy, and other available resources of our community library.  The Friends are always in need volunteers to help raise money, advocate for the library, and assist with book sales.

The Friends hold monthly meetings at the library on the third Thursday of every month at 5:30 PM. These meetings are open to the public. Anyone who is interested in volunteering (or just wants to learn more about the Friends) is encouraged to attend.

The Friends also hold a monthly book sale in the first floor of the library. The book sale is open 10 AM - 2 PM on the second Saturday of every month.

If you have additional questions about the Friends, their activities, and how to get involved, please call the library at (423) 263-9475.

Support the Friends

The Friends of the Etowah Carnegie Library rely on donations to continue their work. Donations of books, DVDs, magazines, and other media that can be sold at the Friends' book sale are always welcome. Monetary donations are accepted as well.
