December 15, 2012: Trans Tasman achievement: Received some great news at the conclusion of the Trans Tasman camp: Rachel Speir was named as the Auckland Girls Captain for the Trans Tasman tour - the management are extremely impressed with her manner, attitude and ability to communicate with both athletes and adults. A great feather in her cap - Well done Rachel!

December 15, 2012: John Walker Night of Miles: Some of the achievements from this event are: Emma Dunbar and Nathan McDougall won gold in their respective 1 Mile Walk races, Christopher U Ren came second in his 1500m race for silver and both Zaria Ireland and Ben Kroonenberg competed during the evening in their 1500m races.
December 7-9, 2012: HJAC Past, present and future: Some of our 'old boys and girls' and current athletes who were competing in the National Secondary Schools competition held in Dunedin achieved several noteable acheivements. The highlight was 'old boy' Michael Dawson who won the Junior Boys 800m title with a new PB of 1:54.84 He also anchored the Auckland Grammar 4 x 400m JB relay and they picked up Bronze as well. His performance recognized by being named in the U17 NZ Team to run the 800m at the Australian Youth Olympic Festival to be held in Sydney 18 – 20 January 2013. In the same competition 'old girl' Celine Pearn acheived 4th place in the Junior Girls 400m final in a PB time of 60.01 and current HJAC athlete Niven Longopoa also came 3rd on the JB 100m hurdles in a time of 14.19 and 4th in the JB long jump with a best distance of 6.09m.
December 8, 2012: Our own committee member Maria Kroonenburg competed in the Wanganui Three Bridges marathon and won first place in the womens division in a time of 3.14.34.

December 1, 2012: HJAC win 7 medals in total at Auckland Relay Championships at Massey Park, Papakura. The highlight was the last race of the day when the boys won gold in the Boys Medley - well done to Niven Longopoa, Chris Uren, Jack McConnel, Karl Pearn and Aubrey Lasi. Special thanks must also go to those athletes who stepped up an age group to compete - Jamie Chambers-Steward, Blake Costley, Aubrey Lasi, Melinda Ryan-Kidd, Amelia Grgec, Alexandra Hyland and Olivia Halpin.

November 4, 2012: Rachel Speir was selected for the Auckland Trans Tasman team which will compete in Sydney in January 2013 against NSW. Challenge Day is Sunday the 13th of January at Cambelltown Sports Stadium.
Well done Rachel.
October 21, 2012: Emma Dunbar walks to success!

Emma won a gold medal in the NZ Long Distance Championships where she walked 10km and retained her national U16 title. She also won gold in Wellington competing in the NZ 5km Road Championships on September 1.

Congratulations Emma - a fantastic effort!
14 May 2012: HJAC at Auckland Junior Prizegiving
Accolades continue to flow for HJAC athletes at the annual Auckland Junior Prizegivng held Monday 14 May 2012.
Awards are presented to the top three boy and girl athletes in each group - either 7-9 years or 10-14 years.

Three HJAC athletes were nominated and selected by the Auckland Junior committee.
Top honours go to:
10-14 Girls - Malia Longopoa (11G) 2nd place (she won it last year)
10-14 Boys - Michael Dawson (14B) 1st place
Niven Longopoa (13B) 2nd place (he won it last year)
In addition, Niven won the trophy for the top 13 year old at Auckland Championships.

Their families were also present to share the special moments.
A fantastic achievement for the athletes and HJAC - Congratulations!

7-8 April, 2012: HJAC athletes at 12 & 13 IPs
Niven Longopoa, Aubrey Lasi, Tamsin Harvey and Marlia Steinmetz were chosen for the Auckland 12/13 Interprovincial team.
Teams from each province in NZ contested a closely fought competition at Mt Smart over the Easter weekend.
Some excellent performances including four HJAC records. Congratulations to Niven for being chosen as the Boys Captain.
The competition was won by Wellington with Auckland a very close second, just 77 points adrift!

29 March, 2012: Another chapter in the history of HJAC is over! Last night was our final club night for the 2011/12 season. A night of fun was had by all who attended with special guests being the Junior Highland Games group who entertained through the evening. Our athletes experienced a bygone era - tossing the caber, throwing the stones, the Highland Dancers - a fitting climax to another successful season.

23-25 March, 2012: HJAC athletes at NZ T&F Championships

Success and milestones achieved!

Congratulations to our 14 year old athletes Michael Dawson (M17), Celine Pearn and Emma Dunbar (both W17) who competed with distinction against their older competitors.

  • Emma won the Silver medal (3k Walk)
  • Celine was 6th (200m Heat), 5th (400m Final) - just missing the sub 60 second mark
  • Michael was 5th (2k Steeplechase - his first ever race) and 8th (800m Final)

In the 800m heat he ran superbly for 3rd place becoming the first HJAC athlete to break the magical 2 minute barrier - 1 minute 59.46 seconds (a PB and HJAC record).

March 1, 2012: Celine Pearn (14G) has been selected for the Auckland W17 team competing at the National Track and Field Championships. She will be running the 400m and is also a member of the 4 x 400m relay squad. Well done Celine.

  • 25 Feb: HJAC Championships starting 1.30pm - 26 Feb Rain Day:
  • 7-14 year olds: 100m, 200m, 400m, Shot Put, Discus, High Jump and Long Jump.

    2-6 year olds: 50m, 75m, Handicap and Obstacle .

  • February 11, 2012 HJAC acheive 7th place at the Auckland Top 10 event
    In typical Auckland summer weather conditions - pouring with rain in the morning and glorious, burning sunshine in the afternoon, HJAC managed an overall very credible 7th place in the team competition and all age groups finished within the top 15 positions - AWESOME result! Placings are as follows:

    Finally, to prove the importance that every point counts, the points earned by Melata who was competing as a single, 12 year old girl made the difference to the team to finish 7th instead of 8th!

    29th January, 2012 HJAC athletes perform well for Auckland at NI Interprovincial Champs

    The NI Interprovincial Championships for 14 – 17 year old athletes were held in Palmerston North over Anniversary weekend.

    4 HJAC athletes were selected to represent the Auckland Team, all delivering very credible performances.

    Michael Dawson achieving 2nd place overall in 14 boys. Congratulations Michael.

    The Auckland Team placed 2nd overall in the 14 & 15 combined age group, narrowly beaten by a strong Waikato / BOP team. Counties Manukau were 3rd

    Colgate Games in Tauranga was dogged by some rough weather (including the Rena breaking in two) but was a fantastic Games both from a competition and administration perspective.

    A special mention for Michael Dawson who was honoured and awarded with one of the four Colgate Palmolive Scholarships presented at the conclusion of the Colgate Games in Tauranga.
