November 7, 2010 Gerald van Waardenberg
It is with sadness, that Gerald van Waardenberg (48) has passed away this afternoon after his 18 month long battle with cancer.

Many will remember Gerald as the Pied Piper during his time with HJAC as age manager for his group. Sophie and Alexander attended HJAC for several years.

Gerald touched the lives of many. He was a musician, composer, vocalist, writer and director of shows, Head of Department (Music) at Otahuhu College, a committed Christian with an unwavering affection for his family and friends. He had an incredible memory and an amazing intellect traversing a wide range of subjects. Age was never a barrier and he always made time to allow people to discuss issues with him (even as a confidante).

To his family, Lois, Alexander and Sophie we extend our deepest sympathies.

A BIG congratulations to Kimami Sitauti who was part of the Australian Sevens team who won silver at the Commonwealth Games. Kimami was a member of HJAC not that long ago. Well done to him.

Congratulations to all those who gained trophies and awards at prizegiving yesterday. A big congratulations to Rosie Mimms who won the Auckland Sportsperson Award for 7-9 girls and also William Caltaux who won the Auckland Sportsperson Award for 7-9 boys tonight. There were a large number of nominations this year and competition was fierce, so it's great that Hilssborough took out 2 of the 4 awards. Niven Longopoa (11) was nominated in the 10-14yr boy category whcih was won by Jordan Vetter (14) from Eastern, and Malia Steinmetz was nominated for the 10-14yr girl category which was won by Merewarihi Vaka (14).

January 9-11, 2010 Medals and Records at North Island Colgate Games

The North Island Colgate Games at Mt Smart this year were the largest in 30 years with 1570+ athletes competing from all over NZ and also New South Wales (on Saturday). HJAC entered 52 athletes and 6 officials and stood out amonst the rest of the clubs with easy to see flags held by Daniel Sloan and Jessica Reid (our 14 year olds) at the Opening Ceremony. I'm sure I saw some mothers doing eyedabbing with tissues during the march around (or was it the wind?). The weather was changeable on the first day of competition with wind, rain, cloud and sun, but Saturday and Sunday was beautiful. The HJAC tent stood up to the wind and the camp was happy and full of positive team spirit. Congratulations to these medal winners:
