Sparta Street Construction completed
The street construction is now completed all but the final layer of paving which will occur in 2021. Check our our new historic lights. During construction the old corduroy road was uncovered and some logs saved. They will be ondisplay at the Church Museum. |
Sparta Devastated by Loss of Winter Wheat and new update
The loss of Winter Wheat by fire this winter has been a real blow to Sparta. This very popular attraction was totally destroyed. Mike Roberts, the owner is taking a year off to recuperate and may do something on a smaller scale in the future. Mike has done so much for Sparta. He started the first tourist attractions in Sparta in the 1970’s and continued to the present day. He restored two buildings in the village and then opened Winter Wheat. We are thankful for everything Mike has done for Sparta and wish him all the best. The property has been sold and will see a new use soon. |
Sparta Stitchers
A group meet every Tuesday at 1:00 to 4:00 at the Sparta Community Hall, 46272 Sparta Line, to quilt, knit, crochet, tat, sew etc. Everyone is welcome. We each make a donation of $5.00 to help the hall. We often have joint projects like making quilts for nursing homes or first responders. Due to Covid 19 the group is not meeting at present. It will resume shortly. |
Museum Displays
The Sparta Church Museum is closed for 2020 due to Covid 19. In 2021 it will feature a new display on Pioneer Knowhow. Come see how fields were planted and harvested, soap was made, wool was dyed, water was pumped, and many other skills. Please note that you are welcome to use our new rest area beside the museum. We will be adding landscaping to the area this summer. Our Forge and Anvil Museum will feature the history of our village and be open seven days a week from mis May until Labour Day. |
