About us

The Hertford Symphony Orchestra is one of the UK’s leading non-professional orchestras. Many of our players are professionally trained, many teach music to a high level and all members aspire to the highest standards of music-making.

In recent seasons we have taken on enormously challenging and exciting works such as Elgar's Symphony No.2, Stravinsky's Petrushka and Mahler's Symphony No.5.

Soloists have included Stephen Hough CBE and LSO’s Rhys Watkins.

Not only does HSO play amazing music in the 'traditional' concert format, but it also gives extremely popular family concerts.

The Hertford Symphony Orchestra draws its membership from a wide area in Hertfordshire and is always looking for new members – see our 'Vacancies' page for more details.
