About the Club

What does the Club do?

The High Bridge Railroad Club, established in 1997, has two main activities: building and maintaining our model railroad layouts, and operating our trains. The Club also supports various community events throughout the year by providing model train displays and railroad-related information. Some members have other railroad-related activities in which they also participate. The Club hosts Open Houses for the public multiple times throughout the year. Information about our Open Houses may be found on the Open House Events page. The Club also maintains an extensive library of information about model railroading and prototype railroads, including a selection of books, magazines and videos. These materials are available to all Club members.

Where is the Club located?

We are located at 106 Fourth Street, in downtown Farmville, Virginia, in the basement of the Crute Stage (also known as the Downtown Stage) on the corner of South Main Street and East Fourth Street. A sign hanging on the Crute Stage building wall on Fourth Street shows the entrance to the Club.

What type of model railroad layouts does the Club have?

The Club has 3 operating layouts:

  • An HO scale layout (approximately 465 square feet) that depicts modern railroading in Virginia, and operates using Digitrax Digital Command Control (DCC)
  • An O gauge layout (approximately 465 square feet) that uses 3-rail track and operates using Direct Current (DC) control
  • A small N scale layout (approximately 23 square feet) that operates using conventional Direct Current (DC) control
