Programme 

The 2023-24  programme will operate September to August.

 If you are thinking of joining us, our normal arrangements are as follows.

Evening meetings are 7.30pm to 9.00pm. Meet over a cup of tea or coffee from 7pm.

Day Workshops are 10am to 4pm. There is priority booking for members. 

Full Payment is required when booking a place.

The workshop fee includes a light lunch. The Heart of Scotstoun  Community Centre does not allow consumption of your own packed lunch on the premises.

Workshop requirements will be here on the website and e-mailed out to members.

Linzi Upton - The Quilted Yurt and other Daft 3D Ideas! (Talk)

We’re excited to welcome Linzi whose quilt ‘Help Ma Boab’ won 1st Place - Contemporary Quilts at the 2023 Festival of Quilts Birmingham. Linzi – the Quilt Quine - has exhibited in the UK, The Netherlands, Hungary, and the USA, and is best known as the creator of Quilted Yurts.


September 20 

Linzi Upton - Northern Lights: Improv Strips Cushion (one-Day Workshop): This class will be a project based class exploring improv piecing techniques for wonky strips and curves. Options include raw edge or seamed piecing, “skelf” inserts, raw-edge or reverse appliqué settings. Quilting / embroidery is added for interest as you go along. The project is not meant to be an accurate pictorial representation of the Aurora Borealis.

Discover this travelling exhibition of 28 unique 18" square quilts, inspired by the theme of seasons.

Jacqueline and Aileen - Trip to Uzbekistan (Talk)

Jacqueline and Aileen will present an illustrated talk about their Arena travel trip to Uzbekistan and bring along some of their purchases.

Carolina Oneto 

Born in Chile, Carolina learned patchwork and quilting with Teresita Leal and Cecilia Koppman, known Argentinian quilters after moving to Buenos Aires. Decidedly modern, her quilts have been exhibited in Quilt Festivals around the world, such as Quilt Week (Paducah, Lancaster, Des Moines, Daytona Beach, Grand Rapids, Virginia Beach), Quiltcon, Festival of Quilts in Birmingham, European Carrefour do Patchwork, Fiberart International, Festival do Patchwork Gramado and Floripa Quilt Festival (both in Brazil). Additionally, her work has been featured at art centres and galleries in Europe, USA and Chile.

Carolina currently lives in São Paulo, Brazil, where she has her own studio in which she creates her artwork and teaches.

Kay Leech - A textile journey (Talk)

Kay won the 2022 City and Guilds Student Award. Her work is contemporary and experimental, inspired by the textures, patterns and colours in the natural world of her home territory in Cumbria. She is Exhibition Coordinator of QGBI Contemporary Group.
