Instructions for Banner Blocks

THE GLASGOW GATHERING OF QUILTERS

 BANNER BLOCKS

 Background

The ‘Banner Block Collection’ was created in 2003 shortly after the group started  as a way of members getting to know one another and having everyone involved in creating a collection of completed 12.5in finished blocks.

The only criteria is that the blocks be bound in black and be 12.5in by 12.5in enabling anyone to do a tradition 12in block, so 1/4in binding required.

Many of the initial members used ‘Glasgow’ as a theme and others opted to do a design in their favourite technique.

The collection has been on display over the years at our meetings and at different events.

The hanging system has been upgraded in 2018 so easier to make and hang!

Any form of binding is acceptable so long as the binding is black in colour.

Invitation to all members

All members are invited to make a block to add to the collection. So as you can see any technique and any design is open to you.

Finished size of completed banner block including binding is 12.5in by 12.5in.

If your design uses a light background it has been suggested that cream looks better than white in such an overall collection. So that it is not too stark. However, we have a lot that are white  / ivory and they look good too. So the choice is yours.

You are asked to complete an information sheet, which is provided, to include a wee bit of info on the techniques used and the background to the design you opted to use.

If you wish explore further making a block, see them or would like any help and/or assistance regarding options etc. then please contact our secretary

There is space for a lot more blocks so please consider making one!!
