Commonwealth Quilt 2014

"A huge thank you to Jacqueline (Quilters' Guild of the British Isles Area Representative  for Glasgow and Lanarkshire) who did such an amazing job bringing us the opportunity and then seeing the project through to completion.  She organised the project so well it didn't get too much for anyone and it was really lovely sharing our Big Secret and getting together to stitch.  We are all very proud of the finished product and it is amazing that we will be part of the Commonwealth Games history for ever.

It was really good fun filming our piece to camera with a film crew in the City Chambers.  The piece they used for the countdown was us dancing at the end to Happy by Pharrell Williams!  We had done 20+ takes by then of Jacqueline and I unfurling the quilt and smiling into the camera but I'm glad they picked the take they did as it fitted in with the fun of the event.  I had never been filmed before so found it all fascinating to be part of and less scary than I thought, except for the Producer frequently saying '1.4 billion people will be watching' in a spooky voice to stress me out when he realised I was nervous!!

It was such a thrill seeing our quilt on the giant screen and knowing that so many people would be seeing it across the world.  I feel so lucky to have had this opportunity to play a part in something so special.  I also feel quite famous now too, even though no one seems to have recognised me in the street yet but it is early days..."
