About us

Professional work experience includes accountancy, (Finance systems) application support, project management, English language teaching and vocational teaching (Lecturer) in higher education for security and, business organisation topics.

Additionally, we also have many years of training and teaching experience in Lii-Kan Jitsu (Jiu Jitsu and then some, since 1982) and Kyusho (Kyusho International), supported by relentless study of other styles such as Wing Chun, Filipino arts (E.g. Kali/Escrima) and Katori (Japanese weapon systems). These skills are further enhanced by a Master Practitioner certification in Neuro-linguistic Programming (NLP) and several years practical experience at the grassroots level in the security industry ranging from public order security screening & door supervision (järjestyksenvalvoja) and guarding in shops (vahtimestari). More recent training activities include Parkour and even some basic Break-dancing, or, 'Breaking' as participants now like to refer to it. For more info, see 'Our Staff' page.

Other work experience even includes a little acting in the Finnish Tv series 'Salatut Elämät' and other stunt-acting work for a Mocap motion capture production, the video for which you can see below.

As it is below, so it is above

Our personal security training and teaching experience is extensive, since 1983. That's over 35 years of training and 30 years of teaching experience with the foundation and teaching of 5 clubs since 1987, the latest one being the Espoon Liikan Jitsu Club Ry, founded in 2018. We are as accustomed to teaching children as we are adults, and have conducted many successful demos and courses for local authorities and schools in both the UK (e.g. New Malden) and in Finland, e.g. Uomarinteentie koulu, Myymäki, Viherlaakso Lukiokoulu in Espoo, the Vantaa City 'Liikuva Koulu' sports and demo days, and, the Kalajärvi School, Espoo, where we were invited back to teach our own brand of dynamic physical education sessions for the entire school.

Our Instructor qualifications include the IFPO Certified Protection Officer certificate, NLP Master Practitioner certificate, an M.Sc. in Security and Risk Management and for many years the local Finnish state qualifications and work experience as Järjestyksenvalvoja / portsari (public order / door supervisors) and vartija (security guard / retail), with use of force rights, including pepper spray, baton, TKP and hand-cuff permits.

Not just another attitude, but, a way of thinking

Our self-defence training from which, our personal security system is based on Lii-Kan Jitsu. The outlook and approach to our personal training that Lii-Kan Jitsu pursues and imbues, feeds directly back into our professional lives and approach to the work we do. It generates not just a body of (otherwise life-less) technical knowledge, but a way of thinking and the skills to apply it. For more information about Lii-Kan Jitsu, please see their club pages at  www.liikanjitsu.club (https://sites.google.com/site/liikanjitsu/ ).

'To be or, not to be?

You can walk and talk like a general all you like, but without the substance, it all just an illusion, a smoke screen. No 'leader' can properly direct and manage their team if they cannot lead from the front with the knowledge, skills and experience to back it up - that would just be 'Hollow Management'. So, if you would like to know how the principles and methods of self-defence and martial arts, link and relate to modern security, conflict intervention and risk management, you will find no better resource.  We can provide you with an integrated framework of knowledge that makes it much easier and quicker for you to understand and learn.

On the other hand, if you are willing to spend the time to work it all out for yourself, you can start by reading Sun Zu's treatise 'The Art of War' and Musashi's 'The Book of Five Rings.' But it might take another 30 or 40 years of hard training and study, assuming you succeed at all. These books are well worth the read in either case.
