Two UNB Fencing Club members participated in the Portland, Oregon North American Cup (NAC) this weekend past:
Cedric Richard (UNB/Fundy): After a tough pool, Cedric placed 126th in Senior Division I Sabre. After winning all but one of his pool round bouts, Cedric was seeded 24th before the elimination round in Senior Division II Sabre. He would go on to beat Arthur Murtaugh (USA) but later be upset by Sean Lee (USA) in a tough 15-13 elimination bout in the round of 64. He would finish Division II Sabre in 38th place.
Wendy Yano (UNB): After a strong pool performance, losing only two of her six matches, Wendy was seeded 31st going into the elimination round of Senior Division I Women's Sabre. In the elimination rounds, Wendy was upset by Cindy Oh (USA) in the round of 64. Wendy would finish the event in 41st place, her best result in the NAC circuit. This also placed her 4th amongst Canadian participants. On the following day of competition, Wendy followed up her strong performance by capturing a bronze medal as part of the only Canadian team participating in the Senior Women's Sabre Team event.
Congratulations Cedric and Wendy on your strong performances this weekend!
