UNB Fencers Compete at Nationals

Four members of the UNB Fencing Club were in Montreal over the weekend for the first Canada Cup National Fencing event of the season.
Club President David Themens competed in Epee, finishing in 6th place in the University Men’s Epee category and 21st overall in Senior Epee after a close 15-10 loss to Pascal Heidecker (ranked #1 in Canada in Senior Epee). David also captained the 5th place Men’s Epee Team, Les Unprédictables.
Wendy Yano finished 17th in the Senior Women’s Sabre individual event, but earned a silver medal as a member of the Beaches Fencing Club Women’s Sabre team.
Raphael Bradley finished 17th in Cadet Men’s Sabre after a close 15-14 loss to Filbert Yung in the round of 32. He also competed in Junior Men’s Sabre, finishing the event in 35th spot.
Cedric Richard, who trains at UNB and Fundy Fencing Club in Saint John, competed in the Junior and Senior Men’s Sabre events, where he finished 20th and 27th, respectively.
The UNB Fencing Club will be taking a break over Christmas, but will return in January with an Open House event for anyone interested in trying fencing. Details will follow, or you can contact the club directly on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/unbfencing, or by email at email@example.com.
The next event in New Brunswick will be the Alfred Knappe Team Tournament, hosted by the UNB Fencing Club, on the weekend of January 31-February 1 of 2015.
