The Beginning of the New 2015 Fencing Season
Post date: Aug 21, 2015 2:15:22 PM
I hope you all enjoyed your summer. A new fencing season is now upon us and the club will be hosting several events to start the year off.
September 7th: Corn Boil
The UNB Fencing Club has reserved a table at this year's UNB Student Union Corn Boil in the UNB SUB Quad from 1:00pm until 4:00pm. We'll be doing demonstrations in both Sabre and Epee. We're currently looking for Sabreists to help with the demonstrations.
September 9th: Open Bouting
There will be open bouting in the Currie Center Dance Studio starting at 8:00pm. This is open to anyone who was a member in the past year.
September 11th: Fencing in the Quad
Some club members will be fencing in the UNB SUB Quad starting at 11:30am and going until 1:00am. Please let us know by email if you would be interested in fencing, as we will need to pick up the equipment in advance.
September 13th: Barbeque at the Lake
The club will be hosting a barbeque at Killarney Lake, starting at 5:00pm. There will be hiking, swimming, yard games, and free food. If anyone has any yard games they would like to bring, please do so. The event is only open to club members and their guests, so please bring your fall registration fee with you to the event. Fall registration forms will be available at the site. Drives will be available to take people to Killarney Lake and back. Please let us know if you need a drive or if you would be willing to drive a few fencers to the event.
In the event of inclement weather, the event will turn into a Board Games night, hosted at Marshall D'Avray Hall on campus and beginning at 7:00pm. A notice will be sent out by email the Friday before the event to confirm the location and activity.
September 14th: Fall Open House
The club will be hosting its Fall Open House in the UNB Currie Center Recreation Gym from 8:00pm until 9:30pm. We'll need volunteers to do demo's at the event and help our coaches with the Open House lesson. Please invite your friends to the event. It's free to participate and open to anyone.
September 16th: First Practice of the Season
This will be our first official practice of the season with beginner classes from 8:00pm to 9:00pm in the Currie Center Dance Studio and intermediate/advanced classes beginning at 9:00pm. Our full intermediate/advanced program schedule will be announced at a later date.
September 19th-20th: Alfred Knappe Team Tournament
The club will be hosting the first provincial tournament of the season (The Alfred Knappe Team Tournament) in the Currie Center Recreation Gym. This is a three weapon team tournament. In order to compete, fencers must be registered with the provincial fencing organization. Tournament details will be forwarded once made available by FENB.
Hope to see you all this season.
