Farewell , David Themens

The UNB Fencing Club would like to say a fond farewell to long-standing member, David Themens, as he embarks on his next adventure. He will surely be missed by the local fencing community for his participation and contributions over the last 21 years.

David Themens began fencing in 2000 at the Aux-Quatre-Vents (AQV) Fencing Club in Dalhousie, New Brunswick where he trained in foil and epee.

In 2007, David joined the UNB Fencing Club for the first time where he served as Vice President and Assistant Coach, then Acting President and a Competition-Stream Épée Coach before leaving in 2011 for Montréal. During his time in Québec, he became a member of Escrime Mont-Royal Fencing Club and trained in all three swords under Master John Harvie.

David returned to the UNB Fencing Club in 2013 and remained until 2020. He contributed countless hours as an active participant, Club President (2014-2016, 2017-2020), Treasurer (2016-2017), and Advanced Épée Coach (2014-2020). He also served a term as a board member of the provincial fencing association, Fencing-Escrime NB, and was a regular volunteer at local tournaments as a referee and organizer.

His reliability, knowledge, and experience has been appreciated as a major contributor to the fencing community and will certainly be missed by the UNB Fencing Club. All the best on your next endeavour!
