Eighteen fencers from New Brunswick will compete at Challenge des Nations in Quebec

Eighteen fencers from New Brunswick including twelve fencers from Damocles fencing club, five from UNB-Fredericton and one from Hampton (Fundy fencing club) will travel to Blainville, Quebec to take part in the “Challenge des Nations” international tournament on the April 22-24 weekend. In addition to Canadian opponents, they will be facing fencers from France, Spain, Great Britain, Argentina and USA.

UNB will be represented in epee by David Themens & Mitchell Clark and in sabre by Raphael Bradley, Cameron Haigh and Wendy Yano.

The Damocles team is comprised of six epeeists: Fredericton High students Job O'Brien, Minh Nguyen and Willow Wilson; Leo Hayes High students Calum Skidmore and Calum MacDonald; and Ecole Ste. Anne student Sophie Poitras.

The Damocles foil team of six includes: Ecole Sainte Anne students Pierre Arseneau, Buster Biggs and Nicolas Richard, Fredericton High student James Piers, George Street student Nicole Beuk and one Harold Peterson student Maya Sood.

Foilist Matthew Cole from Hampton will represent the Fundy Fencing Club.

"This event will provide an important gauge of the progress they have made this season as they get ready for the Provincial Championships and the final Canada Cup of the season in May. The fencers & coaches will be assessing what final tweaks are needed to peak at the upcoming Canada Cup/National Championships", cites Damocles coach Barbara Daniel.
