Tools for Effectiveness and Self Improvement

I create tools to help myself and others become more effective.

7/27/2019: Decision Advisor: ClearerThinking.org developed an online tool that helps you make better decisions. Our study shows that when participants used the decision advisor they experienced less regret about the outcomes of their decisions and reported fewer cognitive biases in their decision-making process. You can try out the decision advisor here and read about our study here.

11/24/18: Evening reflection: reflect on your day and extract valuable lessons from your experiences. Morteza Ansarinia created this simplified public version of my evening reflection survey for you to try: https://beta.cut.social/newui#reflect

08/22/18: A reflection app for learning how to make better decisions. The Decision Tracker lets you log decisions that you have made, reflect on how you made those decisions, and re-evaluate your decision strategy when the outcome of the decision occurs. You can try it out here: Decision Tracker

01/07/18: Improved To-Do List Gamification Spreadsheet. I have updated and simplified my to-do list gamification system. I now use Complice to set daily intentions, and whenever I complete one of them I add a certain number of points to my daily productivity score. To do so, I categorize activities as "extremely valuable" (250 points/hour), highly valuable (150 points/hour), and neutral (100 points/hour). Here is what the spreadsheet looks like:

As you can see, it includes your productivity score, your productivity goal for the day, how close you are to achieving it, your level and rank the productivity game, your productivity per hour, the projected time when you will achieve your daily productivity goal, and other useful things. Most of them are computed for your automatically. You can download the new version here.

We are also working towards a to-do list gamification website; we have already developed most of the front-end and a back-end for to-do list gamification.

03/05/16: The to-do list gamification spreadsheet makes your work more rewarding by giving you immediate feedback for all of the great things you do. This might help you stay motivated and achieve your goals. In addition, assigning points to the activities on your to-do list will help you prioritize the important things and feel good about accomplishing them. Your score will give you a quantitative measure of how productive you have been each day. As you earn more points, you will level up and every time you complete level 10 you will be promoted in honor of your achievements. This is a very early prototype of a to-do list gamification app that will be much more powerful and more user-friendly. If you would like to learn more about this project, please take a look at my blog post about optimal gamification.

01/28/15: The self-monitoring spreadsheet helps you reflect on your day and improve yourself. It provides quantitative feedback and highlights my progress. You are welcome to try it yourself and customize my template to your needs. If you have any feedback, I would be happy to hear from you.
