In Minnesota:

Jay Cooke:  
Due to the June flooding, access to this State Park is closed this year, 2012.  The roads are washed out.

Gooseberry Falls: Waterfalls on the Gooseberry River can be viewed up close from vantage points on the lava flows on which the river flows. Minnesota’s most visited park. Handicapped accessible. It’s about 50 miles from Buffalo Valley CG.

From the town of Two Harbors, follow State Highway 61 northeast approximately 13 miles to the park.   

Split  Rock Lighthouse:
Picture postcard views of the Lake Superior shoreline and the iconic Split Rock Lighthouse.
Fairly easy walking.  Lighthouse and grounds tour is a separate fee.

Located about 20 miles northeast of Two Harbors on MN Highway 61.     About 54 miles from Buffalo Valley Campground.

Moose Lake State Park:
Here the focus is on the glacial history, geology and Lake Superior agates.

Located 1/4 mile east of I-35 at the Moose Lake exit #214. The park entrance is off County Road 137. Take the Moose Lake Exit off I-35. Then go east on County Road 137 until you see the park signs about 1/2 mile down the road.  It’s about 30 miles from Buffalo Valley Campground.

Soudan Underground Mine State Park:
Take the tour of the historic iron ore workings at the 2000 foot level or tour the state-of-the-art subatomic physics lab also on the 2000 level.  Maybe do both, but they are separate tour fees. It’s about 100miles from Buffalo Valley Campground.

Take U.S. Highway 169 towards Ely and follow the signs. Soudan is located 2 miles east of Tower, MN.  

In Wisconsin:
Pattison State Park features views of Wisconsin’s highest waterfall and sweeping vistas across an ancient lake bed toward Duluth.  Handicapped accessible.  About 12 miles from CG.

Directions: From Belknap Street (US Highway 2/53) in downtown Superior, go south on Tower Avenue (State Highway 35) 13 miles. The park's main entrance will be on your left.

Amnicon Falls:
Wisconsin’s smallest and most overlooked park.  It’s a real gem featuring waterfalls in an idyllic setting.  A fun place for a picnic. Handicapped accessible.

Amnicon Falls State Park is about 7 miles east of the Superior city limits in Douglas County. Take US Highway 2/53 to to the southeast out of Superior. From the junction of highways 2 and 53, take US 2 about 1 mile east to County Highway U. Turn left (north) on Highway U and go about .3 mile. The park entrance is on your left. Map coordinates are 46° 36' 29" N, 91° 53' 14" W.   About 26 miles from Buffalo Valley Camp Ground.
