efi page on Curcuma karnatakensis
this reference link is correct
http://www.flowersofindia.net/catalog/slides/Carnatic%20Curcuma.html
but the images is not the same one. it is very difficult to identify
on photographs. i would like suggest that please contact to ... for this. he is the expert in Zingiberaceae and Costaceae...
I think its Curcuma pesudomontana
Sanjay ..., Thanks for the ID suggestion but what intrigues me is the yellow band starting from the lip and extending to the throat of the corolla said to be unique to Curcuma karnatakensis....! Keeping my fingers crossed...!
As per the morphological features of C. karnatakensis your specimen is distinct from this by means of sheathing leaf base (against base unequal and slightly cordate), long petiole (against short, upto 6 cm), petiole and sheath green coloured (against purple tinged or rarely green), presence of prominent coma bracts (against coma bracts absent) and many minor characters. The flower and bracts colour in Curcuma is variable (for reference please go through the attachment). You please also check the colour of rhizome, in C. karnataknsis it is flesh cream coloured with a slight mango ginger flavour (it is absent in C. pseudomontana. In C. pseudomontana petiole lengthnis varies from 60-70 cm).
You can easily distinguish C. karnatakensis from C. pseudomontana by means of the presence of sessile tubers (against absence of sessile tubers) and flesh cream coloured rhizome (against yellow coloured at centre).
Pls find the attachment. Attachments (1) - Curcuma inodora PDF.pdf
Are you suggesting that the specimen uploaded is Curcuma inodora...?
No, never. That paper I am sent to you to understand the range of variations occured in bracts, flower colour and inflorescence nature in a single species.
You go with C. longa as per the ID suggested by ...

Pl. check the rhizome for Curcuma longa? Rhizome dark orange red in the case of turmeric.

This plant was cultivated on a large scale in Mehkar near Akola, Maharashtra. Locals said that it was haldi (turmeric).
Please validate it to be Curcuma longa.
Looks like turmeric, Curcuma longa.
