It is my pleasure to share few images of Stachytarpheta indica (Verbenaceae

Habit: Under shrub

Habitat: Wild, occurring in wastelands.

Sighting: Eastern Plains of Chikmagalur and Tumkur, Karnataka, about 800 msl

Date: 12-08-2014, 18-11-2014 and 29-09-2015

blue snake weed. we also know it (i think) as Stachytarpheta jamaicensis
I have seen it planted in at least one herbal gardden in south 24 paraganas in west bengal a few years ago... even though its supposed to be a bit toxic to the liver
do your region have ethnobotanical studies? do tribals in your forest use it?

Floristic Diversity of Assam: Study of Pabitora Wildlife  (2003)
The Flowers of India site lists Stachytarpheta indica in their pages and call it as "Indian snake weed" and says that it is similar to S. jamaicensis. They further add that it is not clear as to whether the two are same...!
Ref:http://www.flowersofindia.net/catalog/slides/Indian%20Snakeweed.html
yes, ...  all those links that ...
has sent if you look at them (i did just now) both are listed in the same listing as if the authors are implying they are synonyms
all snakeweed at east these blue one hybridize like crazy and are according to univ fl extension ...difficult to differentiate...
i did not readily find any molecular analysis papers
so may be one has to wait till these weeds find enough interest in the research community
i may yet because it seems it may be an important anti-inflammatory  and may even be useful in diabetes...
Yes ..., The possibility of natural hybridisation has compounded the problem of classification and nomenclature. As per my field observation over the years the ones growing in the Eastern plains have off-blue coloured flowers and the ones growing around Ghat forests have deep blue flowers. But I cannot substantiate scientifically....Its only my observation...!

Attached are pictures of Stachytarpheta cayennensis captured at MNP in March 2013.
Could someone please indicate the difference between S. jamaicensis and S. cayennensis?
difference is in the leaves
but you need absolutely flat leaves like when you put it on ground or a white sheet of paper or make a herbarium, several leaves and from both types and compare
there is a way to differentiate
but it can not be done it here, no leaf is flat and one that looks flat makes one dx and another that's curving creates doubts.
optical illusion makes the teeth look different in your different leaves
this is a case where if it pleases you you keep the diagnosis you have
was it labelled by the botanists there? or label it as Stachytarpheta sp..
I managed to get some shots of the leaves yesterday, attached as pics...
Based on Dineshji's post, this does seem to be S. cayennensis.
I had taken these photographs last year while accompanying ... within Bangalore and Chikamagalur in September 2015. Comparison with images images on Flowers of India is even more confusing, but looking at this website and comparison therein (although it considers S. indica as synonym of S. jamaicensis) I place this within S. jamaicensis
Thanks, ... I think yes as per http://lee.ifas.ufl.edu/Hort/GardenPubsAZ/Blue_porterweed.pdf
