nice
individual flowers look somewhat similar to the lantana involucrata
though phyla n. should have a spike its not showing
do you have side ways view of the flower head?
Thanks very much .. for appreciating so many of my uploads.
Unfortunately no, ... These small flowers are close to ground; found it quite challenging to get close to them.
I was not knowing that Phyla nodiflora has spikes; will attempt next time.

Phyla nodiflora (Lippia nodiflora) growing along dry places, field borders and roadsides in Delhi

Phyla nodiflora (L.) Greene, wild prostrate herb near Bangalore,
used in preparing hair oil. It is a medicinal herb, some places fruit also used in cooking.
Yes ..., Nice photographs.
But if this paper is to be believed, its a native of California, (and is widespread in the world, including considered a pesky weed in Australia) yet has a Sanskrit name (though I could not verify any of the Sanskrit or vernacular names given in the pdf above) and is said to be an Ayurvedic herb...
how is this possible ??
I would be interested in hearing from folks who study history of botanical specimen, or their migration etc... or paleobotany....  when did it first appear in Indian subcontinent etc ... or when did it first appear in Ayurvedic literature...

According to USDA, Wiki and few other references, Phyla nodiflora is native to the 'New World' (S. & N. Americas) (not just CA as mentioned in that paper).
This species is more popularly known by its synonym 'Lippia nodiflora' and this name is used in most of the older literature!
Here are some of the Sanskrit names I stumbled across: Vasir vasuka, jalapippali, toyapippali, jalapippalika, shakuladini, sharadi, matsyagandha, matsyadani, langali
(ref.: http://ayurveda-florida.com/Ayurvedic_Materia_Medica_Articles/Table2.htm)
I can give Phyllanthus amarus (previously named as P. niruri in many Indian literature) as an example of Ayurvedic plants that are not native to India. I think this species (again native to the New World) was introduced to India some 450 years ago (need ref.) and is now so well established in India to the extent that one would think it as a native species. It has also well got into our culture and healthcare traditions, incl. Ayurveda and Siddha.
very nice info...
Digging further last nite I had found mention of Jal pipli in a book that says Charak has talked of Jal pipli effects on the body. I'll have to dig deeper.
And you gave me the name Lippia, I found some info in a Nighantu from Chowkhambha publications. Thanks.
If I find that Charak Samhita really talks of it, then we have to think of  how did it get to Indian subcontinent that far back.

Attached are pictures of Phyla nodiflora captured at Thane in March 2015.

2) કચ્છ સ્વસ્થાન ની વનસ્પતિઓ ઠાકર જયકૃષ્ણ ઇન્દ્રજી  1926 (PLANTS OF CUTCH AND THEIR UTILITY by THAKAR, JAIKRISHNA INDRAJI, 1926)
how does one get one of each?
Actually they are too heavy files ... 179 MB and 37 MB. Such sized files cannot be sent over mail.
... had provided me links to the files in whatsapp, from where I had to download - I am not sure whether I can post the links in public domain.
Please request him for the links, because I am not sure of copyrights of the books.
well. your reply was an impetus for me to search. both are older than the conventional 60 or 65 years's worth of copyright.
i found the book number 1 copy owned by NYBG and scanned by them, available
its a 866 pages large. took a while to download.
Number two is a bit elusive but wiki visually page says its copy right has expired. may be some Indian colleges have them in their libraries. will have to keep looking. thanks …
Thanks … It did not occur to me for searching on net, these two books. The link is useful; now one can read/ search through the online book for any reference. Thank you very much; now I can give link to any inside page as bibliographical reference.
