Yet to click it, although it was growing in our College when I did not have a digital camera.
very nice
different plants were photographed and got mixed up??
I am asking because your picture 3  4  and 5 flowers are different
petals are wide and rounded end
not the linear pets i usually see
Yes ..., I have posted multiple instances of sightings in gardens of Mumbai and Pune.
The differences (variations) must be due to various horticultural cultivars of the species.

Lamiaceae & Verbenaceae Week: Petrea volubilis:  The images in this post consist of a Petrea volubilis 'classical (first 2 images) from one plant and the rest of the images from another plant, the latter being a scandent shrub, 10-12 ft tall.
I was not sure whether the scandent shrub images were indeed of Petrea volubilis because they looked so different until I saw something similar in Top Tropicals labeled Petrea arborea. A quick check with the ars-grin database confirmed the taxon listed as a synonym of P. volubilis.
I'm a trifle surprised that the variation has not been listed as a sub-species for the morphological (in structure) difference (subject to my identification being correct) is quite evident and significant.
A nice series of photographs. Why don't you list down the differences (other than habit), if they look so different?. This will help in further investigation.

I have seen the same differences, in flowers of the vine..Petrea volubilis and the sp called arborea...
genetic differences are bound to show up...if the progeny of the two repeats the vine-like Versus the shrub...
The shrub like petrea I saw was at a nursery owned and  run by a man who is the president of the NE indian Nursermen... or some such organization....  I'll go back and photograph them again in details and  see if I can buy  the two cuttings .. .established in large pots...
MY QUESTION TO ...: IS THERE ANY LAB THAT DOES  GENETIC ANALYSIS OF ORNAMENTALS?

This purple shower added glory to my roof garden at Kolkata.
Scientific name : Petrea Volubilis
We call it in Bengali - Nilmonilata. In English 'Purple Wreath'.
Family: Verbenaceae
Woody climber, leave stiff and rough, deeply veined.
Interesting Flower - pale blue mauve stars usually mistaken as flower, but they are actually calices. Dark purple colured tiny flowers rest in the calices. One purple petal has white patch in the middle.
Never seen seed pods / fruits.
Nilmonilata ...................wow!!!
really nice one....Thank you for sharing.

It look likes Calycopteris floribunda (Roxb.) Lam. from Combretaceae.
These are the bracts of Petrea arborea white form. Usually these would be of blue colour.
I second ... for Petrea arborea, looking at the bracts and the leaves in the background.
The leaves of Petrea are very rough like sand paper.
Yes it is Petrea arborea only
The purple vars. Petrea volubilis blooms in my house during March, but this year its bloom is still there though it has turn white now (9.5.13). May be the sun is too bright.
I have a purple vars. P volubilis at my farm.. it flowered last yr and this yr too but the spray is very less..
I heard the colder the winter the better the showing..

Petrea volubilis, The Purple Wreath
I agree with …
Thanks … Is there any Marathi name for this flower ...?
I don't know any Marathi name.
In Flowersofindia, Nilmani lata is given as the Hindi name.
http://www.flowersofindia.net/catalog/slides/Purple%20Wreath.html
Yes, I checked that. But couldn't get marathi name. But नीलमणी is also a nice name ;-)

Again seen at the Friends of the Trees Exhibition in Feb, 20.
These had white flowers.

We have only one species of Petrea in efi site so far: Petrea volubilis
So it must be this only.
